Lesson 2: Music connects people

Here we find Andrea, a 12-year-old student talking about

how music connects us with others:

Music has a way of making people happy and making them

want to get up and dance. It brings friends, family or the
community together. In this presentation I would like to
tell you about how music connects me to my friends, family
and my community.

IT CONNECTS ME WITH MY FAMILY

Music has always been a part of my life. My Dad loves music and almost always has it
on. My Mom and I like to listen to music together in the car, and sometimes my whole
family will spend a Saturday night just watching music videos. My family and I like to
share music, my Dad often shows me music he liked when he was a kid or I show my
family music that I like or listen to. I have many memories of my dad showing me
music and me showing him videos of music that I like. If I hear that music somewhere
it will bring back memories of us listening to music together.

IT CONNECTS ME WITH PEOPLE FROM MY CULTURE OR OTHER CULTURES

Music connects me to the community in many different ways. There are so many
different people and cultures in Oakville and music can bring us all together! It is truly
amazing. Music festivals, concerts even just a small band in a garage. Over the summer
I went to a festival with my parents and my brother and there was a band playing. We
listened while eating some food and I thought it was cool. Singing together can also
connect people such as singing the National anthem at school or a sports event or
singing at church, I have never really liked singing but I do agree that when you sing
with other people it brings you together. 

IT CONNECTS ME WITH MY FRIENDS

Music connects me to my friends in unique and interesting ways, even if we don't

listen to the same music. Music can still connect us, it can bring us together. We can
show each other music that we like, my friends and I do that all the time. I show my
friends music that I like and sometimes they show me music that they like. Once one of
my friends showed me a song that she liked and it turned out to be my favourite song.
