Density: the mass of an object relative to its volume.
● Objects with a lot of matter in a certain volume have a
high density, while objects with a small amount of matter
in the same volume have a low density.
Mass: measurement of the amount of matter in an object
or substance.
● Universal measurement doesn't change due to changes
in gravity
● Measured in grams and kilograms
● We typically use a balance to measure mass, but we
can also find mass by measuring the Earth weight of
an object with a weight scale 10
Volume: how much space an object or substance
takes up
● Cubic meters but more commonly shown in
liters and milliliters
● Couch has more volume than a chair because
it takes up more space!
Buoyancy: the tendency of an object to float in
fluids because of the upward force fluid exert on
objects.

Let’s Debrief!
What happened?
Why do you think this happened?
What did you get for the density of
the water?
What did you get for the density of
the unpeeled orange?
What can you conclude about density
in respect to the water’s density?

Lets watch
a video to
learn more
about
density!

VIDEO QUEST IONS !!!
1. Explain what density is and how it relates to
objects sinking or floating.
2. How can density be measured?
3. How does density affect whether an object
will sink or float?
4. Why did the orange with the peel float?
