servitude of peoples subjected to the interests

the expansion and continued conquest of new
territories to be subdued.imperialism was
born during the European expansion of the
15th century.

CAUSES

the exploitation of raw materials which would be processed and
transformed into value-added products.
Competition: European powers competed for prestige and power of
influence, and this could be reinforced with the colonization of new
territories.

trade routes, thereby gaining geopolitical power. Religion and the
belief in racial superiority: Imperialism can be driven by a sense of
superiority, whether of race or religion.
Political causes. The powers conquered certain places that were
strategic to control important sea and land routes.

DEVELOPMENT
The most important trade routes were those that went from
Europe to Asia to trade in spices and exotic products and the
route that went from Africa to America to trade in slaves. That
is why in Africa there were still Portuguese factories that had been
used for the slave trade. In Africa the process of conquest was
started by the Belgian King Leopold Although the French army was
more powerful, the English had greater naval power because their
ships could enter the navigable areas of the Nile.During this period
two colonies were created, the colonies of exploitation and
settlement colonies; The colonies of exploitation are those
whose human and natural resources were oriented to satisfy the
great needs of raw materials in the metropolis. The population
colonies were territories that, due to their peculiar natural

population in the metropolis.

manufactured products.

conditions, but there was a segregation among the population
coming from the metropolis.

the great powers, with the colonial race then becoming a source of
friction that would lead to World War I.
