MEC 101 – Introduction to Engineering

ASSIGNMENT (20 marks: 10%)

Lesson Learning Outcomes:

Students will be able to describe the vital, basic characteristics needed in pursuing the path of
mechanical engineering and also to identify the current issues on ethics or responsibilities of
engineer.

Course Outcomes:

Task: Individual Presentation on Ethical Issues in Engineering

1. Select ONE of the Mechanical Engineering Professions currently that we have now. (eg.:
Production Engineer, Design Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, Quality Engineer)

2. Find articles from newspaper, books or internet regarding the Mechanical Engineering
Profession chosen. Create a 10 minutes presentation (in Microsoft Power Point) that
include all the following items;
a. Education and skills required and responsibilities in the profession
b. The example of ethical issues related in the profession
c. Relate the ethical issues stated with the ethical standards i.e. Code of Ethics
d. Ideas on how to resolve the ethical issues and/or issues of equity

3. Create a 10-15 minute presentation on the topic chosen.

4. Please submit the softcopy of your presentation slides (Microsoft Power Point) before
the dateline given by your class lecturer.
