RINGER'S SOLUTION (1/4 STRENGTH)

INTENDED USE

Ringer's Solution 1/4 strength is a diluent used to prepare dispersion solutions for the microbiological
control of water, milk, dairy and other food products. It is also widely used to prepare serial tenfold
dilutions.

PRINCIPLES

Ringer's Solution 1/4 strength is an isotonic solution that prevents osmotic shock from occurring,
when bacteria are removed from their usual environment.

PREPARATION

- Put one tablet (BR001) in 500 mL of distilled or deionized water.

- Stir slowly until complete dissolution.
- Dispense in tubes (9 mL) or in vials (90 or 225 mL).
- Sterilize in an autoclave at 121°C for 15 minutes.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

Preparation of dispersion solutions

- Cool to 25°C.
- Aseptically add 10 or 25 g of the product to analyze to a tared flask containing 90 or 225 mL of the
medium in order to prepare a 1/10 suspension (or a solution).
- Homogenize thoroughly.

Preparation of tenfold dilutions

- Cool to 25°C.
- Add 1 mL of homogenized sample or stock suspension to a tube containing 9 mL of diluent.
- Homogenize thoroughly.
- Repeat this operation until the desired dilution is obtained.

Sodium hydrogen carbonate ..........................................................0.050 g

QUALITY CONTROL

- Dehydrated medium : white tablets.

- Prepared medium : colorless solution, limpid.
- Typical culture response after maintaining diluted for 45 minutes at 20-25°C, followed by
inoculation in Tryptone Soy Agar :

- The expiration date is indicated on the label.
