Title: The Philippine Art Education: Situation of college professors and students on
Magna Anima during the Covid-19 pandemic

Background of the study:

The world has been altered by the COVID-19 epidemic. The virus has affected human
behavior, relationships, and lifestyles due to its nature, particularly the way it spreads. It
has significantly impacted the economic, political, and cultural landscapes of nations
worldwide. Additionally, it has made poverty, discrimination, and inequalities worse in
many parts of the world, not only because COVID-19 seems to be affecting poorer
communities more than the wealthy, but also as a result of the steps states took to stop
the virus' spread, which included restricting people's freedom of movement by imposing
community quarantines, lockdowns, and curfews in many regions of the world.

Institutions of higher learning (HEIs), both public and private, have also had to adapt to
the new environment where face-to-face communication and large-scale meetings are
restricted. The top colleges and universities in the Philippines, especially those
connected to the ASEAN University Network, like the University of the Philippines,
Ateneo de Manila University, and De La Salle University, have remained committed to
their mission and have developed creative ways to carry out their triple mission of
teaching, research, and service. Everyone became accustomed to work-from-home
arrangements, including the administration and teaching staff as well as the operations
and support service units.

Magna Anima is also, one of the schools affected by the pandemic. Because they offer a
BCAED course that focus on studying Visual Arts, Dance, theater, and lastly is Music. The
school had a very difficult time with how they will help the students to improve their
skills, especially in those four major subjects. Teaching online for this specific subject of
arts is not that easy because professors can't see or can't hear if you are doing it right or
wrong. And students don't have that many resources to gain that pieces of knowledge
because remember we are in the pandemic and we can't afford this time to buy these
art materials to build our knowledge for the major subjects. As we know during the
pandemic, face-to-face setup of schools is prohibited and so the learning of BACED
Students is very limited. But I agree that they still gaining some knowledge but the
question there is that enough? Or that knowledge was right? Because let's remember
that we don't have a teacher that can guide us. The difference between f2f and online
classes, f2f situation is the teacher can see physically if you are doing right, in online
classes teachers can see it but they can't determine if the learning was there also.

The importance of this study is to give the idea that arts are very difficult to work on it
or study if we don't have the resources that we need for this course. The study also
wants to help the schools to remind them to support this kind of learning especially in
times of pandemic or climate change. The epidemic has amply illustrated the social,
economic, political, and environmental realities and phenomena from various angles, as
well as the unsustainable conditions that many of us have been experiencing. It has also
generated new issues and difficulties and altered how we live our lives. To adapt to
these realizations and changes, HEIs must also analyze and evaluate their research
program and priorities.
