Home Travel Limit - Setup during Head Position Calibration, not accessible from the
Health reports.

Far Travel Limit - Setup during Head position calibration, not accessible from the Health
Reports.

Garage Position - (OFF SHEET) Set to allow maximum work distance between the
scanner head package and the edge of the paper sheet.

Standardize Position - can be the same as the garage position, however it might be better
to have at least a two inch/5 cm difference for trouble shooting purposes. Standardize
position may be moved closer to the sheet, to reduce travel time to the Home Edge of
Sheet.

Home Measure Limit - (LHEOS) Set to the widest possible trim

Home Manual Scan Limit - (KHEOS) Set to default trim limit

Far Manual Scan Limit - (KHEOS) Set to the default trim limit
Manual scan limits are usually set to at least 2 inches/5 cm inside the Measure Limits.
When the scanner drops out of auto edge, it moves to these limits. This insures that the
paper is over the sensor windows, when not in auto edge.

Far Measure Limit - (LFEOS) Set to the widest possible trim

Measure limits should be set to the widest deckle possible. If a threading rope is present,
move the head package as close to the rope as possible without making contact with the
rope.

Max Speed - set to 12-13 inches or 31-32 cm per second maximum scanner speed output.

On Sheet Speed - adjustable, usually set to one half of Max Speed

Scan speed - Computed as a result of a FRAME RELOAD. The 1190/1180 sends a scan
time, in seconds, to the Smart Platform. The Smart Platform divides sheet width by scan
time to calculate a velocity target. Example:
Far measure limit - Home measure limit/Scan time = Scan Speed
258 - 39 = 219 Sheet Width
219/30 second Scan Time =7.3 inch/second velocity target

Off Sheet Time - 600 seconds, if the scanner is off sheet for more than 10 minutes, On
Sheet time is active.
On Sheet Time - 360 seconds, the scanner must scan for 6 minutes, if it was off sheet for
more than 10 minute, before it is allowed to standardize.

Curl Distance - Usually set to 6 inches/10 cm, depending on the characteristic of the
paper machine. All sheets have a frown or a smile. Curl distance is how far the sensor head
package goes past the home edge, before closing the Caliper sensor, to make contact. This
happens on the first scan. The sensor head will then back up, to the home edge of sheet and
begin scanning.

Home Head Clearance - Set to 12.5 inches/31.75 cm

Far Head Clearance - Set to 5.25 inches/13.4 cm.
Home head and Far head clearance are part of the calculation used when sensor head
package comes on sheet. The Home Head clearance value determine how far the head
moves, before starting Prepare To Measure. Far Head Clearance is only used when the
sensor head must begin Prepare to Measure, from the far side of the scanner.
NOTE:
If Curl Distance is being used, because a Caliper sensor is present, set Home head
Clearance to 0.1
If There is no caliper sensor on the Platform, Set Curl Distance to 0.1.
These values should not be less than Home/Far window clearance. Smaller values can
cause scanning problems.

Home Window Clearance - 2.5 inches/6.35 cm

Far window Clearance - 2.5 inches/6.35 cm
These variables are set according to the chart in the Installation and Maintenance Manual.
Use the value for the widest sensor window, on the scanner

Automatic Edge of Sheet Setup

AEOS State - Display only, downloaded from the 1190/1180 system when AEOS is
turned on/off.
Home Detector Offset - Measured from the center of the detector to the center of the
sensor window. 16.75 inches/
Far Detector Offset - Measured from the center of the detector to the center of the sensor
window. 10.75 inches
EOS Deadband - The amount of WANDER, permitted, before the Smart Plaform accepts
a new edge and remaps Cross Machine Control. Usually set to 2 inches/5 cm.

The non-knowledgeable individual thinks this is the variable to adjust, to get the Sensor
head package to scan closer to the edge of the sheet. If the value is too small, the Cross
Machine Control will remap at the end of every scan.

Max Edge Change-Usually this value is picked by the Mill Process Control personnel.
Any trim change greater than, for example, 60 inches/152.4 cm will be interpreted as a
sheet break.

Home Edge Track/ Far Edge Track - 2 inches /5 cm - value determines how close the
sensor window will get to the edge of the sheet.
Scanning to the edge of the sheet can requires special setup of:
Home Window Clearance
Far window Clearance
Home Edge Track
Far Edge Track
these variables can be set to the same value as position deadband. Adjusting Home
Detector Offset and Home Detector Offset by small amounts can put the caliper sensor
exactly at the edge of the sheet.

Set Slow tune speed DAC to 40 for an ABB ACS100 drive, 80 is for a Finncor/Lovejoy
Acceleration - should be set to 50% of scan speed. In this example scan speed is 7.3 in/
sec, so acceleration should be 3.65 in/sec. This value determines both the acceleration and
deceleration rate of the sensor head package

If Scan Speed is 7.3 and Acceleration is 3.65, the ramp is 2 seconds. If acceleration is too
small, the amount of dwell time increases, at the edges. If Acceleration is too small, the

head package over shoots the desired position, because scanner waits too long to start
braking. This results in hunting at the edges.

Acceleration too small

Acceleration too large

Position Deadband This value is calculated by ft, usually.5 inch/2 cm.

if position deadband is too large the head package sits at the edge and will only move
when the head package is pushed to the desired edge

If Position deadband is too small the head package over shoots the desired position,
causing hunting.

Minimum Velocity - The value for minimum velocity is calculated by ft. The best value
can be determined by the formula:

18 inches 45.72 cm = 1.52

Minimum Scan Width = Minimum Velocity = 0.6
30 sec 30 sec
Scan Time
=
It can be adjusted by turning DDC ViminSelf-tuning on. Normally DDC Vmin Tuning
should be OFF. It is defaulted ON. This can cause problems because Vmin tuning will
ramp up the value for vmin, but will not ramp down. This is exhibited by excessive dwell
time at the edges, followed by rapid acceleration to get to the desired scan speed
DDC Vmin Tuning should be turned OFF. Then perform a gstore of frame.ini and restart
the system, to prevent this problem.
DDc vmin tuning can then be turned on for four scans, to see if the value needs to be
adjusted. At the completion of four scan turn DDC Vmin Tuning off.
Maximum Velocity - maximum allowed speed in customer units that the scanner can
request. 13 inches/32 cm per second.

Never adjust or play with DDC Proportional gain or DDC Integral gain.

DDC Excessive Error % - determines when the sensor head package has been stopped by
an obstacle. The scanner goes to local if this value is exceed. If this error occurs during
frame tuning it can usually be solved by increasing the v/f motor Torque slightly.

DDC Restricted Motion % - determines when the speed is too low, say 10% of target,
causing the platform to go to local
7.3 X 0.10 = .73 Head speed less than.73 Causes the platform to go to local.
