Chapter IV

PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

This chapter presents, analyzes and interprets the data related to the sub-

problems of the study, tabulated, arranged, analyzed and interpreted appropriately.

THE CHALLENGES AND STRUGGLES OF STUDENT PILOTS

The challenges and struggles of student pilots pertaining to financial matters

are presented and tabulated in terms of financial expenses, financial anxiety, and

financial independence.

FINANCIAL

Financial refers to the matters concerning finances or financial situation of

individuals or a group. It pertains to monetary matters which includes activities like

budgeting, saving, investing, borrowing and forecasting. It is also a term regarding

monetary expenditures or relating to money.

Student pilots need to spend a huge amount of money to pay for their flight
training and to get the required number of hours to finish flying school. The financial

situation of the student pilot affects their training and daily lives. The role of finances

is crucial as it creates stress or hinders a pilot to continue their flight training.

Table 2 presents the challenges and struggles of indiana aerospace university student

pilots during their pre-solo and post-solo flight training financial expenses.

TABLE 2

FINANCIAL

Indicators Weighted Description

Mean
1. Student pilots during pre and post-solo spent a 3.81 Strongly Agree
lot of money.
2. Student pilots during pre and post-solo were 3.25 Agree
having unexpected expenses.
3. Student pilots during pre and post-solo needed 3.00 Agree
for financial independence.
5.Student pilots during pre and post-solo were 2.75 Agree
having financial anxiety.
4. Student pilots during pre-solo and post-solo had 2.50 Disagree
trouble staying focused.
Weighted Mean 3.06 Agree

Legend:

4 - 3.41 - 4.00 Strongly Agree (SA)

3 - 2.61 - 3.40 Agree (A)
2 - 1.81 - 2.60 Disagree (D)
1 - 1.00 - 1.80 Strongly Disagree (SD)

In table 2, the different financial aspects obtained the average mean of 3.06

which showed that financial matters play a big role on the student pilots. The highest

mean, which is 3.81, revealed that student pilots spend a lot of money during pre-solo

and post-solo, and also experienced spending money on unexpected expenses with a
mean of 3.25. Furthermore, finance is a big factor that affects a student pilot during

their pre-solo and post-solo flight training.

The highest mean proved that the student pilots during pre and post-solo spend

a lot of money during that phase in their flight training. There were also unexpected

expenses that overwhelmed the students financially.

The survey further showed that there were a lot of challenges and struggles

encountered by the student pilots in terms of financial, emotional and mental health.

As such, discipline would greatly help in achieving less in experiencing these kinds of

matters.

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED

The problems encountered by the student pilots are concerned with issues

concerning no flight schedules, financial instability and health issues. Therefore,

formulation of solutions should be given.

Table 11 contains the following problems encountered by the student pilots

during their pre and post-solo flight training.

TABLE 11

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED

Indicators Frequency Rank

5. No flight schedules due to weather conditions and

refurbishment aircraft 16 1

1. Financial Instability Issues 9 2

6. Poor performance affects the students loss of

motivation 8 3

3. Unsuccessful attempts at knowledge test, practical and

licensure examinations 5 4.5

7. Negative feedback causes mentally unstable 5 4.5

4. Renewals of pilot licenses are delayed 4 6

2. Indecisive of what they are going to choose of their

chosen field 2 7.5

8. Dealing with health issues 2 7.5

The table 11 showed that a lot of student pilots' top problem is the no flight

schedules due to weather conditions and refurbishment of the aircraft with a

frequency of 16. It has been safety that always comes first in every flight schedule

that bad weather conditions may affect. Thus, no aircraft is so tolerant of any

negligence that it is safe in the absence of an effective refurbishment of an aircraft.

The second highest is the Financial Instability of the student pilots with a

frequency of 9. There might be some uncertainty in every flight schedule, which will

result in delayed flight schedules where students will be staying at the dormitory for

too long and exceeding budget expenses because of financial instability.
