1. Describe the life of Jose Rizal as represented in the film.
Answer:
The movie is a mixture of flashbacks and real-time representation of Rizal’s
life when his case against the Spanish government and church was under
investigation. Although his life in jail were mostly the highlights being presented
in the film, there are also some relevant flashbacks of his life that were shown
throughout the film. Rizal’s life in jail seemed to be his days of contemplating and
reflecting what has happened to his life, works, and battles. It can be seen in his
flashbacks that his family is indeed in the principally there were servants shown,
their big house, horse-drawn carriage, library and all the other description of the
families belonging to the middle-class of the social and economic hierarchy during
the time of the Spaniards. The joy of his childhood days were also shown in the
film, along with the happy Mercado family that nourished Rizal.

2. Based on your readings and class discussions, what can you say about the
film’s representation of Jose Rizal?
Answer:
Rizal’s existence in prison regarded to be his days of considering and
reflecting what has befell to his existence, works, and battles. It may be visible
in his flashbacks that his own circle of relatives is certainly with inside the

3. What is the main question that seeks to answer in the film?

Answer:
The main question that the film seeks answer to is, who is a Filipino? A
question also frequently addressed by Kulas, the protagonist of the film. As the
movie recreates the lives of the Filipino’s under the Spanish constitution, which
them transitioned to the American administration, this question serves as our
reminder of our identity as a Filipino despite being ruled by colonizers. My
personal take on this question is that, a true Filipino is someone who does not
forget his own identity as one and carries it with him proudly wherever he may
be. He also someone who knows his right and duties to the country and does not
agree to overseas norms and culture.
