1. The original text says that: Serungal was
determined to pursue his love despite the
challenges given by the rajah. He also helped
others who were in need though he himself
will have to face his own circumstances. He
helped the ant and the firefly who were
about to be killed, and also the squirrel was
rescued by him.

rajah despite his ugly judgment.

1. In my new text, I will develop this
character by: making him interact more with
the character I’ve chosen, which is the
youngest daughter of rajah. Also, I will make
his characteristics flow throughout the story,
specifically his relationship among every
characters he meets, in order to prove that
his traits are genuine and as expected from
the original story.
2. In my new text, I will be consistent with
the theme by: showing the character’s values
and real identity in order to emphasize my
chosen theme by letting the character grow
his relationship more with the other
supporting characters.

adding dialogues or conversations in order to
maintain each other’s thoughts and ideas
among themselves. Also, through adding
descriptive actions such as, what he’she is
currently doing during that moment or

the events of the story which transpired

daughter. Also, Malays usually marry
members of their own ethnic group or same
life status, which can be a reason why rajah
didn’t want Serungal to become his son-in-
law.
