Challenges that I believe faced by the students during

the online learning are as follows: firstly, the
distractions that affect focus. Given the opportunities
1 where students could browse the internet while
classes are ongoing (like opening a separate tab to
browse the web) can cause distractions, especially if
Dave the purpose of doing so is not relevant to the class and
its topic-discussion. Browsing social-media and doing
RQ 1 other stuff while class is ongoing affects my focus, and
ultimately my ability to retain information about the
class discussion. To add, I also think that the teacher’s
What are the challenges face methodology to keep students focused on their
by the students during online discussion is also a factor that affects the focus of the
learning? students towards the class discussion, ultimately
preventing distractions. Which leads me to my second
point, Motivation.

I am not a judge to decide what qualifications would

define a best teacher, but I think that a teacher that
could motivate their students to learn and love the
subject is the best teacher. The atmosphere a teacher
gives off combined with their methods are definitely a
combination that affects motivation for learning, on
contrary, if the teacher gives off an unapproachable
feel and has a poor way to motivate the students
methodologically, then I think it would be
demotivating to listen at all, at least for my case. The
extrinsic influence of the teacher’s methodologies can
affect student interest, ultimately affecting student
motivation which in turn affects retention. But I am
not saying that it is ultimately the teachers fault,
because the other side of the coin, the intrinsic
motivation of an individual towards online class is also
a factor. There are many factors that affect a person’s
motivation, as for me, the school schedule where we
get to experience classes a few times a week with a lot
of vacant time has developed a sense of
procrastination within me. This procrastination has
allowed me to develop lazy behavior like a sloth. As a
result, I get lazy entering classes and view them as
tiring as it gets in my way of my free time. The
pandemic has allowed me to be comfortable with the
comfort of my home that I tend to forget the purpose
of school, why I am entering school, and its impacts to
my future. (P.S. I almost want to drop the 1st year of
online learning, because I think that it was
unnecessary and is tiring than normal face-to-face
classes.)

The problem that we face on a daily basis has mainly

something to do with the internet connection. Even if
we are prepared for our class, if the internet
2 connection is weak, it will always be disruptive for us.
The same also goes to the internet connection of our
teachers. On some occasions, it is hard for us to
Jannela understand the lecture because our teachers sound
choppy or robotic. There are even rare occasions when
their connection will be so weak that we had to
reschedule our class.

The online mode of delivering assessments can also be

a problem. For instance, the web page will
automatically refresh, erasing the students’ progress
as well. There are also instances when the student
might accidentally click on the ‘submit’ button even if
they are not yet finished answering.

One of the challenges faced by students during online

learning is environmental distraction. Family
3 problems, for instance, are not a good environment
for students who are learning in the online modality,
where it affects their mental and emotional aspects. In
Aurie a way, students will not be able to focus properly on
the class while problems in the household might occur
from time to time.

Apart from the technical issues that students face

during online learning, one of the challenges we face is
4
the lack of self-motivation. As we all know, switching
to online learning modality gives us a new approach to
learning hence, allowing each one of us to delve more
Julia into independent learning. As a result of the numerous
assignments and tasks we must do each day, the
majority of students experience stress and a lack of
desire to finish their work. Many students find it
difficult to learn online and instead prefer face-to-face
learning.

Collaborative learning is the setting of a common

ground of diverse people of diverse origin to come into
an understanding. It is a mutual agreement for
collaboration without biases of nationality or race. It is
also the involvement of two or more people (parties)
that decided to work together to create a fruitful by-
1
RQ 2 product. I also understand it as a form of team-work of
different participating individuals. I also view it as a
comfortable space for the involved parties.
What do you understand about Collaborative learning is about sharing and
collaborative learning? accumulating different ideas. It is not only one that is
working or thinking but it is different minds working
2 together to come up with a solution or a new idea. So,
collaborative learning is also a new way of thinking or
a new way of learning where we continuously
expound what we know, where we continuously
explore different aspects and different perspectives.
One word the defines collaborative learning is
contribution. Everyone should share and express their
input and similarly, everyone should also be open to
receiving these ideas. It is quite a give-and-take
situation where the members would share what they
think and listen to what others say.

In my opinion, collaborative learning is a way to

conceive or seek a solution to a particular problem.
Wherein, it supports the existence of having a problem
in this world, which is to test humanity's desire to
3 choose the path of being united or being selfish. Aside
from that, understanding the purpose of collaborative
learning will be able to make us realize that we have
our own way of perceiving things in this world.

The focal point of collaborative learning is to foster

collaboration between students and teachers. Thus, it
gives us the chance to learn and grow from each other
4 by sharing our different point of views on a certain
concept or topic. It also strengthens bond while
learning different key concepts and helps us improve
our higher order thinking skills and communication
skills. On top of that, building rapport is the main
concept of collaborative learning.

I find collaborative learning significant because of

peer-influence, since I view it as an option to grow as
an individual due to the influence brought by the other
1 party. What I mean by influence here is about the
good behaviors, attitudes, and mindset that a person
could show that might influence us to become better
individuals. It is also a great way to test student
learning and understanding, like how peer discussion
RQ 3 and group projects do. More so, it’s also a great
platform to test your skill and your limits as a person,
where you can apply your learnings and develop your
skills as well.
Why is collaborative learning Back in high school, my initial idea on the significance
significant (prior and during of collaborative learning is only to lessen the academic
pandemic) load through the division of tasks, or through the
2 monetary contributions from each member to finance
the project. That is still true to some extent, but the
major thing about collaborative learning is that it
trains us to work with others. It teaches us how to
compromise as well. In collaborative learning, your
way is not the only way. In this sense, not only do we
gain more information and ideas, we also grow to
become more effective social beings.

It is essential in terms of building a diverse community

without any hints of judgments from one another. In a
way people will be able to realize that there’s
3 something good in being different from each other as
well as establishing a variety of characteristics and
personalities within. But as long as it doesn’t harm
anyone, which is always a reminder to everyone.

The goal of collaborative learning is to get students

together to discuss ideas and find solutions to
problems. It offers them the chance to work together
4 to finish a task and understand a brand-new idea. As
they say, "two heads are better than one" refers to a
group of people working together to generate ideas
and find solutions to problems. Most likely, this
approach enables active participation from everyone
in the educational process.

I think that collaborative learning is an effective tool to

reinforce learning especially for peer-to-peer
collaboration, it can be an effective way for students
to clarify their questions and affirm some questions.
Some students might be more knowledgeable than the
1 others, so their influence can be helpful to the rest. I
think that the potential of collaborative pedagogy is as
good as it was during face-to-face (assuming that
teachers apply it before). To add, I think that there is a
need to control the groupings in collaboration, there
must be a systematic way to group the individuals to
RQ 4
create an efficient and effective collaborative synergy.
In that way, collaboration would be comfortable and
would bear better results. If both parties are
How collaborative pedagogy uncomfortable and are acting based on professional
can be implemented / adapted ethics alone, then I find it more indifferent from doing
during the crises (and beyond) some business work than genuine understanding of
each other to create a holistic outcome.

Collaborative learning is still very useful during crises

as it enforces more inclusivity among the group, and it
also helps fill the gaps for those students who are
having a hard time. Say for example, in a group, there
is one member who has no unlimited access to the
2 internet while their project requires deep research and
readings. As this is ‘collaborative learning’, there is
little pressure on the amount of information that one
shares to the group, as long as it is relevant to the
topic. Thus, this member may share any information
that he has gathered–many or few–and still learn as
much as the other members.

However, the teacher should still be able to give

feedback and, if needed, correct any misinformation
as not anything on the internet can be trusted.

I think it can be implemented in a simple way by

letting the students learn it in a daily life situation,
3
because that's one of the uncommon application in
learning by integration of learnings in the existing
situation of life. For instance, establishing the value of
respect as it all starts with that kind of value in order
to establish understanding and even beyond those
characteristics.

This pedagogy can be implemented or adapted across

the learning areas may it be online or face-to-face as it
teaches students the value of collaboration in
everything that they do. Furthermore, we can put such
4
pedagogy into practice by assembling a capable and
adaptable team. Additionally, we ought to encourage
open communication among all groups and foster a
culture of trust. For instance, in a group setting, we
promote activism by encouraging each and everyone
to speak up and express their thoughts on a certain
subject. In this way, the sense of collaboration is being
practiced.

MATRIX GUIDE:

Good day, friends!

Above is the matrix that we will use when analyzing the responses of our participants. I have adapted Braum and Clark’s model in the analysis to ensure that whatever parts of
the codes or categories we may be able to see similarities and come up with emerging themes as one though differs in the country of origin.
