MODULES 1-3
INSTRUCTION: Read and understand the situations carefully and perform the tasks
indicated.
Situation #1:
Kamia is from the province and was enrolled in the School of Nursing in one of the
prestigious universities of Baguio. It was her first day of class. In her first subject, their
instructor gave an instruction that everyone will be going in front of the class to
introduce themselves. Upon hearing this, Kamia’s heart begin to beat faster so is
her breathing. She’s ashamed to go in front. When her name was called, the more
that her heartbeat and breathing became rapid. As she stood in front, she felt hot
and is sweating. She felt urinating and defecating. She was anxious though she
managed to introduce herself for a minute then took her seat. It was only then that
her breathing and heartbeat starts to slow down even her sweat began to dry up.
She asked permission to go to the comfort room.

Task 2. Determine what body movement, classification of joint according to function, and
the type of bone according to shape or muscle/s is/ are involved in performing the
enumerated activities or actions. The first item is given as an example.
Muscle:
19. Orbicularis oris
20. Levator labii superioris
21. Kamia was able to go in front due to joint movements and contraction and
relaxation of muscle fibers of her quadriceps. Contraction of her muscles were
made possible by
A. Lengthening of actin and myosin C. The myosin slide past the actin

Task 3. As Kamia stood in front, she felt hot and is sweating. Identify the systems
involved for sweating to happen then give a brief explanation/justification why
such organs in the system is involved.
Body System( Explanation/Justification. 3 points each.( 3 points if complete;
1 point 2points if 1 data is lacking and/or if incomplete; 0 if no answer)
each)
23. Nervous System 24-26. Since sweating is a natural way for the body to cope up with
normal body temperature, it is controlled and regulated by both
autonomic and central nervous system in which it is the part of our
nervous system that controls voluntary and involuntary activities in
our body. In Kamia’s case, the nerves of her nervous system
activated her sweat glands from being stressed out in standing,
resulting to increase in body temperature and sweating.
27. 28-30. Integumentary system has the largest part of our body, the
Integumentary skin that it has layers and glands involved such as the Sudoriferous
System glands in the dermis are sweat producing glands and these are
important to help maintain body temperature. Since Kamia is
stressed by her surroundings, her sudoriferous glands are triggered
thus its natural response is to increase body temperature and
regulate it by release sweat from the duct of her sweat glands.
Task 4. 31-46. When Kamia’s name was called, the more that her heartbeat
and breathing became rapid. Present in a schematic diagram how Kamia was
able to hear her name called. (Refer to Appendix C for the rubric for grading
a schematic diagram).

Situation# 2.
Coby, 75 years old, has poor vision. He was not able to see the car
approaching and tries to cross the street when suddenly he was hit and fell to
the ground lying on his back. There is bleeding at the back of his head. His right
ulna was also fractured at the middle. Laboratory result revealed he has low
level of Calcium in the body.
Based on the situation, answer the following questions.
47. Which part of the skull is affected? (1 point) The affected part of Coby’s skull is the
Occipital bone.
49-52.If there was great damage in your answer in number 47 and the brain
underneath it was involved. Identify at least 2 possible manifestations to the
client and why?
Possible Why? (Use 1 sentence per number)1 point
manifestations ( 1 each
point each)
49. Concussion 50. This may occur since he had a head injury resulted
from a car crash that applied sudden acceleration to
the head that can cause the brain to go back and
forth which may cause minor bleeding and swelling.
51. Hematoma 52. This may occur possibly since if there is a great
damage in the back of Coby’s head and has definite
concussion then possibly the bleeding could collects
and clots, forming a bump that can be notice for a
day or as long as several weeks.
53-57. Explain in 3-5 sentences how the endocrine system will manage the low
level of calcium in Coby’s body showing the components of homeostatic
control system and how each works.( 5 points if complete; 3 if 1-2 data is
lacking or is unrelated; 1 if 3 or more data is lacking or unrelated; 0 if no
answer).
The endocrine system managed the low level of calcium in Coby’s body by means of
releasing a specific hormone from the parathyroid gland known as the parathyroid
hormone. Calcium-sensing receptors of our parathyroid gland responds to changes in
homeostatic control, called stimuli which in Coby’s situation is the low level of calcium in
his body and this stimuli goes thru a afferent pathway to the control center. In the control
center, the input from the receptors where analyze and processed in the brain for the
generation of output that flows along efferent pathway to the effectors. In the effectors,
body structure which is the parathyroid gland receives the output and produces the
response of producing more parathyroid hormone to the blood which affects the kidney
and bones as the feedback in conserving the left calcium levels in the body until the
calcium levels are regulated.

58-60. Describe how the parathyroid hormone work with the kidneys to
regulate calcium level in the body. (3 points if complete; 2 points if 1 data is
lacking; 1 point if more than 1 data is lacking)
The Parathyroid hormone which is produced by the parathyroid gland is the regulator
of blood plasma calcium levels in the body in which it is the effector of organs such as the
kidney in which it controls the frequency of urination to prevent calcium needed by the body
to be flushed out. If the calcium in the blood is low then more parathyroid hormone is
released and the less you urinate and vice versa when the calcium in the blood is high then
less parathyroid hormone is released and more time to urinate. This processes happened
depends in the stimuli received in the brain that commands the release of hormones and it
will continue until the calcium level in the body is balanced and maintained.
Situation #3.
Wendy woke up in the morning and she felt hungry. She only took two
pancakes with butter and a glass of milk. Fill in the table based on what is
required. (1 point each item)
Where One of the Other Body System
mechanical Hormones needed for
digestion ends needed for digestion and
Chemical Transportation to
digestion take place
Butter 61. Small intestine 62. Lipase 63. Muscular System
(segementation)
64-65. Explain your answer in the fourth column- showing that it has aided in
mechanical digestion of the butter to take place. ( 2 points if complete;
1 point if incomplete, 0 if no answer)
The parts of our digestive system are made of muscle tissue that helps us to chew and
to help food in transporting food that goes along our digestive tract by means of peristalsis.
Muscles involved in mastication (chewing) in our facial muscles such as the Masseter,
Temporalis, Medial pterygoid, Lateral pterygoid, and Buccinator are the once used to grind
food like butter for easier mechanical digestion.
