1. Explain why for all the reaction systems studied, the total volume of the solution phase was
consistently set at 15 mL.
a. The enthalpy of reaction, a known extensive property is computed in this experiment.
Meaning, it could vary depending on the number of moles of a substance or volume of
the solution. Knowing the fact that Hrxn might be affected with varying volume, we used
the same volume in all the reaction systems to match the volume that we used during the
CHEM 17 Institute of Chemistry University of the Philippines
