Natural Disaster
1. What is a disaster? A Natural disaster is a disaster from the earth and it
causes great damage or loss of life. Which one was assigned to your group?
The Natural disaster me and my group have Hurricane as our Natural
disaster.
2. Have you ever been in a disaster? Which one ? if not - describe Hurricane
Katrina, Eastern Guatemalan floods , Siberian Traps ,or Tuscaloosa Tornado Yes
a hail storm !

3. What are some different kinds of disasters? Name all of them and define each
one ( 10 of them )
● Here are 10 examples of natural disasters and the definition of each
of them
● A hurricane is maximum sustained winds of 74 mph or higher
● A blizzard the storm must last for at least three hours and produce a
large amount of falling snow
● A drought a period of unusually persistent dry weather that persists long
enough to cause serious problems such as crop damage and/or water
supply shortages
● A sand storm is a meteorological phenomenon common in arid and
semi-arid regions.
● A tornado A violently rotating column of air touching the ground, usually
attached to the base of a thunderstorm
● Avalanche a natural disaster that occurs when snow rapidly flows down a
mountain
● Typhoons are intense circular storms that originate over warm tropical
oceans, and have maximum sustained wind speeds exceeding 119
kilometers per hour and heavy rains.
● Landslides occur when masses of rock, earth, or debris move down a
slope.
● Wildfire an unplanned fire that burns in a natural area such as a forest,
grassland, or prairie.
● Sinkhole a closed natural depression in the ground surface caused by
removal of material below the ground and either collapse or gradual
subsidence of the surface into the resulting void.
4. What kind of disasters are common in your country and other countries?
In the US some natural disasters are hurricanes, tornadoes, severe storms,
wildfires and floods.
In other countries earthquakes, droughts, storms, floods, volcanic activity,
extreme temperatures, landslides, and wildfires.
5. What is the difference between a typhoon and a hurricane?
If it's above the North Atlantic, central North Pacific or eastern North Pacific
oceans (Florida, Caribbean Islands, Texas, Hawaii, etc.), we call it a hurricane. If it
hovers over the Northwest Pacific Ocean (usually East Asia), we call it a typhoon.
6. What is the difference between a tornado and a hurricane?
The difference between a tornado and a hurricane is that a tornado form over
land while a hurricanes form over warm water. Hurricanes can last up to 3 weeks
and tornadoes last no more than an hour.
7. What is the difference between a sinkhole and a landslide?
A sinkhole is a collapse in a flat area that causes a hole to open up in the
ground. A landslide is a slipping of a slope or cliff that causes large amounts of
rock and soil to collapse.
8. What is the difference between a blizzard and an avalanche?
A blizzard is when there is a lot of wind and snow combined blowing hard.
Avalanche- When all the snow from the top of the mountain comes falling down .
9. What is the difference between a sand storm and a drought?
A sand storm is when there is lots of wind and sand blowing together . And a
drought is when there is no water because the sun is making all of the water
evaporate .
10. What is disaster insurance and who responds ( what agency ) ?
protects businesses and residences against natural disasters such as
earthquakes, floods, and hurricanes, and against human-made disasters such
as a riot or terrorist attack.

11.Which disasters are commonly in the metro GA area and how do we survive
them?
Tornados. And yes we usually survive them .
