Narrative

A narrative observation is a detailed description of classroom

conduct that has been seen. These observations are typically made
of elementary-aged students to evaluate their academic
development, but they can also be made of teachers to assess their
effectiveness in the classroom.

Narrative 1

During the English class, and after four days where the teacher introduced
the story to students, she asked them to solve the activity, “look at the
picture of Billy, and write a sentence about him, how he looks and how he
is?” Fatima tried to describe every single detail in the picture using her own
language. From the sentences written in her paper, it was clear that she had
understood what the picture is about, but at the same time, her language was
not completely right. She wrote that Billy was having a friend and he was
feeling happy. The pictured showed that there was a friend relationship
between them both. The teacher asked Fatima to pay attention to the first
three of her written sentences and try to find more suitable sentences for
describing the ideas.

Comment:

Fatima is always proving that she is a smart student. She tries to use all
her abilities and skills in order to do the job correctly. On the other hand, she
sometimes get confused when using appropriate language in describing any
picture. I would like to urge her parents to keep going on with her to
encourage her and improve her writing skills.

Narrative 2

During math class, Fatima was able to distinguish the tens numbers and add
these numbers successfully. This was done after several sessions during a
period of three weeks. She was familiar with the tables and charts provided
to make the addition process easier. Once she reached this level in adding
these digital numbers, her cognitive skills were increasing simultaneously.
During the class, she was asked to look at a certain chart containing a
number of bars. Each bar contained ten parts. She replaced the tens with
zeros, and solved the task completely. She almost solved all the tasks
provided correctly. This sheds light that to the fact that the more she
practiced such activities, the faster she could use her motor skills. This was
clear when the teacher asked her to add the numbers: 3 tens + 7 tens as it is
shown in the figure provided. It took her few seconds to write the result: 70.

Comment:

From what the teacher observed during the math cessions, it is found that
the interaction between Fatima and her friends in an interesting way. She
was capable of solving all the tasks. On the other hand, it would be
necessary for her to be more serious in class. I do recommend that her
parents keep a sight on her and try to encourage her all the times.
