This has been really a very impressive conference. For those of us who have been to many EAS
conferences, I think we would all agree that this has been one of the… the best. It’s been very
good in many different ways because putting a conference together is a very complex process,
very difficult to get everything to come together at the final point of the event. The hospitality
has been really wonderful and we had such good attention, such carefully planned refreshments,
food in the breaks, everything we ask for somebody was there to help us. So, that really makes a
big difference. When you’re arriving from a different country or another place, you know that
there are people here who can help you very quickly, that has been excellent.
The whole program I think has been really well structured with a good balance of
content. The sessions have been very carefully planned and so the topics, within the session
clearly defined and you feel that, you get the sense that all the presentations have been carefully
chosen for that particularly session.
I also think that presentations have all real food for thought. The audiences for the
presentations have been actively engaged in discussion. The content of the focus have been well
chosen, well thought too.
The concerts have been a wonderful way of providing refreshment, a different kind of
coming together and a great opportunity especially for those of us who are visitors to Turkey
may be for the first time, to learn a lot about the richness of diversity and the quality of music
making in Turkey in all different styles and traditions. I would like to thank the choir today and
all the musicians who worked to contribute the concerts. The members of the choir have been
working not only in Student Forum but through the conference very hard at many different
levels, so I would like to thank the choir again.
I also would like to thank to interpreters, the translators because not only the translators
for the programme on the texts, but the interpreters during the conference. I think all of us are
very impressed by their skills and ability to cope with specialist content and the different ways in
which presenters want to work with there within the presentations.
I also would like to say the big thank to the organizing team, EAS Board met with many
of the team back in November last year we are very impressed by the enthusiasm and already
working very hard to bring the conference together, it is a very good team and again they were
very active and responsive during the whole process. So, special thank to the organizing team.
Lastly I want to thank Nesrin Kalyoncu, because I think everybody would say that she
has brought an extraordinary energy and focus to the whole concept of the conference and has
been here every minute of the conference to make sure that the things are running well and has
providing really strong leadership. From the EAS Board I personally and on behalf of all the
delegates here, thank you.

715
Sadece
program ile ilgili çevirmenlere değil, konferans boyunca tüm tercümanlara. Sanırım hepimiz;
şekilde yerine getiren Düzenleme Kurulu üyelerinin her birine yürekten teşekkür etmek
istiyorum.
**********
First of all I would like to thank very much to Sarah for this praise and assessment. I hope that
we really deserved this praise.
It is much easier to assess the Conference for someone who is not involved! Currently we
still did not completed the process and I really do not want to make an evaluation of the
conference right now for two reasons: First, I do not find it very kind to say words about
ourselves and about evaluation ourselves, secondly, I hope that we can make the real assessment
of ourselves more healthy when the conference is completely finished and after putting a
distance between us and the process. I think that Saray Hesnessy has made enough evaluations
related to the process and conference; therefore I would like more to draw out a balance sheet
and would like to tell something about the preparation process.
Today is April 29 and for me it is an incredible day. I really do not believe right now that
we have come to the end of the 18th EAS Conference! Because, this is a four-day process,
however the preparation process of this four-day conference is an extremely long period. As you
know we did not just held the conference but also the 8th EAS Student Conference and it started
on April 24. So, we have completed an intensive six-day program.
Yesterday, when I looked at my notes I saw that I made the application of the 2010
Conference as the EAS Turkey Coordinator on 14 April 2008 to Prof. Dr. Franz Niermann who
was the Head of EAS at that time. It is a process of two years that we left behind. In two years
step by step; we tried our best in order to prepare this conference by a firm collaboration with
the board of science, the board of EAS and with the organization committee. Here, I would like
to thank to Franz Niermann who engaged a close cooperation with me on every issue and who
did not leave me alone until June 2009 in terms of the formation of the basic blocks and of
programs of the conference. I would like to thank to Dr. Sarah Hennessy who took over the Head
of EAS after the election in Tallinn for not leaving me alone after July 2009.
As you all know, conferences are large organizations and you have to deal with many
issues that you did not think of. We also had many problems in the preparation of this conference
related to financing and bureaucracy. We tried to manage and direct this process as reasonable
as possible both with the EAS Board and with our organization committee.
According to the information received from the registration unit; 200 official
participants, 80 registered course participants, and together with daily participants 400
participants have participated in the conference and took advantage of the different sessions.
This number is really pleasing, if we have reached such a number this is really pleasing for us! It
is extremely important for us that the studies carried out are accepted by people, are accepted by
718
the concerned parties and that fruitful result were yield for them. The number 400 is a number
that makes us very happy!
So far, 22 paper sessions was held within the conference, there were 3 or 4 paper in each
session. There were 6 keynote speakers, four from Turkey, one from France and one from
Germany. 3 panels, 3 round table discussions and 8 workshops were carried out. On the first day
of the conference until the official opening, 3 courses, 2 master classes and 1 atelier was
organized for which the music education students and music teachers also showed high demand.
This is also very pleasing. A course and master class study within a music conference was
organized for the first time in Turkey, which were similar to medical congresses in terms of
structure. This is not very surprising as we also benefited a lot from them as well during the
preparation phase and we would like to thank very much. Furthermore, 10 poster statements
were presented within our conference and 5 beautiful concerts were held.
With my remaining energy, I would like to thank every one from my heart who
contributed to this process, particularly to the organization committee who fulfilled their duties
in the best way. We tired to achieve working like an organism as the Organization Committee.
This Conference could not have achieved without you, thank you very much!
I also would like to thank to all local and foreign members of the science board very
much, who did not leave us alone during this process and who diligently evaluated the working
applications.
Furthermore, I would like to thank to the EAS Board, our university administration, to all
our sponsors. This conference could not have been realized also without you!
I wish that the conference was productive for you all and has left beautiful memories on
your minds! I would like thank you all for your participation.
