A. Slope and Deflection on Beams
- Slope is the rotation or angle of the curvature of the elastic curve of a beam.
- Deflection id the bending deformation or from the original reference line of the an axis (either horizontal or
vertical)
- Elastic curve is the theoretical graph of the bending deformation of the beam.

M – General Moment Equation
MV1 – General Moment equation due to 1 unit load applied at the poinpointt where the deflection is desired
MV2 – General Moment equation due to 1 unit moment applied at the point where the slope is desired
a – Lower limit
b – Higher limit
EI – Flexural Rigidity (modulus of rigidity and moment of inertia respectively)
y – Deflection
θ – Slope

TAKE NOTE:
1. IF E and/or I vary integrate per parts and add them all accordingly.
2. In cutting sections looking at the left assumption is upward is positive, downward is negative, clockwise is positive and
counter-clockwise
clockwise is negative. While ooki
