Dad’s got a present for all of us. Come and see.’ They went into the

Summary of Procedures
The usher introduces the child to the examiner.
1 The examiner greets the child and asks the child ‘What’s your name?’ and ‘How old are you?’
2 The examiner shows the child the two Find the Differences pictures and gives an example, e.g. ‘Here this lorry is red, but here this
lorry is blue.’ The examiner then asks the child to describe four other differences. The child describes four other differences. The
differences are:
There are 3 kittens / 4 kittens
The girl has curly hair / straight hair
There is a cup on the table / no cup on the table
The boy is taking a photo / talking on the phone
The doors are open / closed
The boy’s shorts are green / yellow
The girl has a panda / a penguin on her top
If necessary, the examiner points to differences the child has not mentioned and can prompt with the first half of a response, e.g.
‘Here, there are ..., but here …’
3 The examiner shows the child the Picture Story. Then the examiner tells the child the name of the story and describes the first
picture, e.g. ‘These pictures show a story. It’s called “Paul’s Birthday party.” Look at the pictures first. (Pause) It’s Paul’s birthday
today. He invited his friends to come for a picnic in the park and play games, but it’s raining. Paul isn’t happy, but his mum has a
good idea.’ The examiner then asks the child to continue telling the story. Many variations are possible, e.g.
If the child needs support, the examiner may point at a picture and ask questions about it.
A1 Movers Speaking 2
4 The examiner shows the child the Odd-one-out pictures. Then the examiner demonstrates how to do this task with the first set of
pictures and says, e.g. ‘The carrot is different. You play with a robot, a doll and a car, but you don’t play with a carrot. You eat it.’
The examiner then asks the child to choose one picture in each of the three other sets and say which is different and why. The
child may find a difference which is not immediately obvious, but that is acceptable so long as the difference is plausible.
5 The examiner asks three personal questions about a topic e.g. ‘Let’s talk about shopping.’
‘When do you go shopping?’
‘Who do you go shopping with?’
‘What do you often buy?’
The child answers each question in turn.
The examiner then asks the child a ‘Tell me about’ question, e.g. ‘Tell me about your favourite shop’. The child answers. The
examiner can ask back-up questions if necessary.
The examiner then ends the test by thanking the child and saying goodbye.
