EVALUATION KASUARIN

Jaime Jesus "Jimple" Uy Borlagdan, 42, is a writer, musician, teacher, and

graphic artist from Tabaco, Albay. He is known for his rawitdawits and songs such as
“Kakanon sa Aro-Aldaw” and “Batang Tulisan”, respectively. Now, I am going to discuss
the assumptions, functions, content, relevance, and elements of one of his well-known
Rawitdawit in his book, “Dios Mabalos”.

“Kasuarin” is the 32nd Rawitdawit in the book. It is a short but meaningful work
that focused on connecting to God. The assumption of the work was more on devotion,
so is the whole book. The first line contains a question about if he left God and how to
be back to him. He mentioned in the “About the Author” part of his work that he is a
follower of Jagad Guru Siddhaswarupananda Paramahamsa, his spiritual guru. The
said guru is famous for his philosophy that love is the religion of the soul. It is evident in
the last line of the rawitdawit, “Warang ibang paagi kundi pagkamoot”.

In my opinion, the function of the work can be considered personal, social, or

both. Borlagdan expressed in his art that love is the only way to get in touch with God
again. The message of his work may be made for his supreme being, or he wanted to
share it with us and realize something in our life. Also, its content is factual because the
meaning can be understood by just reading it. I would say that the Rawitdawit
“Kasuarin” is spiritually relevant. The work creates a connection between us through
love.

The elements of Jimple Borlagdan’s “Kasuarin” are explained on the next page of
this evaluation paper.
