6.4 Hydrogen Induced Cracking (HIC) Test plate material is required up on severity
category per DEP 30.10.02.17-Gen.

Where specific items are not covered by a relevant DEP, justification of the material
selection shall be presented by the MAIN CONTRACTOR to the PROJECT
ENGINEER for approval.

All other factors, such as the presence of cyanides, etc., shall be carefully considered
by the Materials/Corrosion Specialist, prior to selection.

7. AMINE SOLUTIONS
7.1 All welded carbon steel and low alloy equipment and all cold drawn bends and welds

9. DIMETHYL DISULPHIDE (DMDS)

9.1 The following requirements are given for guidance only:

 No copper or copper alloys such as brasses or bronzes shall be used in

DMDS because of rapid corrosion.
 No zinc or zinc alloys may be used in DMDS service.
 Plastics shall not used in DMDS service because it is a strong solvent and
dissolves or causes swelling of most plastics except PTFE (Polytetra
fluoroethylene) and PVDF (Polyvinylidene fluoride).
 Steel, stainless steel, aluminium and titanium may be used in pure DMDS
service i.e. in inert gas blanketed equipment.
 Steel equipment and piping must be thoroughly cleaned internally by
removing scale and oil before use.

10. AQUEOUS CHLORIDE SOLUTIONS

Precautions shall be taken to prevent exposure to aqueous chloride-containing
solutions of Ferritic and austenitic stainless steels which are susceptible to chloride
stress corrosion cracking and Pitting. These precautions shall include controlling the
chloride content of hydrotest water, protection during shipment and storage
(especially in marine conditions) and protection under insulation, in particular:

 Controlling CI content of hydrotest water shall be in accordance with the

guidelines as per DEP 74.00.10.10 - Gen
