Data Types: Multimedia products

1. a. The result of multimedia is called a multimedia product or presentation

b. Interactivity is a key feature of multimedia
c. Hypertext files are usually identified by an underlined piece of text or text
with a different colour.
d. A multimedia encyclopedia is a good example of multimedia being used to
store information.
2. a. Multimedia requires at least four data types. True/False
b. Multimedia products are very demanding and require the latest technology
True/False
c. CBT is designed by experts in their field to cater for different rates of
learning True/False
d. Computer games provide a low level of interactivity. True/False
3. a. The presentation of information using text, graphics, animation, audio and
video: multimedia
b. It is used to navigate through a multimedia product: hyperlinks
c. A type of multimedia product used for education: CBT
d. A multimedia product that allows people to use a touch screen a select
information about an organisation or service: The Internet
4. a. Why is the Internet an example of an interactive environment? Because the
information on it is accessible through the click of a mouse, touchscreen or
keyboard, and the information is in many media forms like video, music,
images, or text.
b. What is hypertext? Is a system or link that allows the user to jump from
different sites, video, audio, music, or documents (different media) from the
click of it. It is identified with a different coloured text or underlined text.
c. How are developments in information technology affecting multimedia? It
has allowed people to create multimedia products that used to be harder to
make and only made by film professionals. For example, improvements in
communication speed and capacity on the internet have turned it into a
‘medium’ to deliver multimedia content.
d. Why is multimedia very effective at helping people to learn? Its interactive
nature allows the user to use it to their abilities and control the extent and
speed of the learning process. It identifies certain needs and learning styles in
its users to make the learning experience the most effective as possible. It is
cost effective as well and caters for a wide range of abilities and subjects.
e. Describe some of the features of computer games. High levels of
interactivity, as the game being played depends on the response of the user.
Contain complex animation and code. Feature high quality images, audie,
animation and video, while also including text.
f. Why is multimedia used to display information? It makes it easier to display
and communicate information to people with different learning styles. For
example, things like articles are usually limited to text, but with the
occasional image, the message of the article and certain point of
information can be emphasised and can suddenly be more detailed and
understandable.
5. For the game Final Fantasy 14, the system requirements are as follows.
- 64-bit processor and operating system
- Processor: Intel COrei5 2.4GHz or higher
- Memory: 4GB RAM
- Graphics: 1280 x 720: NVIDIA Geforce BTX750 or higher, AMD Radeon R7
260X or higher
- DirectX: Version 11
- Storage: 80GB available space
- Sound card: A sound card which supports DirectSound
Multimedia in Final Fantasy 14:
- Animation (very extensive and detailed)
- Text (option buttons, dialogue etc)
- Audio (alongside animation)
- Video (cutscenes etc)
- Images (cutscenes, loading screens etc)
It is obvious that the requirements for a PC to run FInal Fantasy smoothly are
quite high standard, and only PC’s from this generation would be able to run
it as smoothly as it is intended to be. There are quite extensive multimedia
aspects in the game, making the whole game slightly more sophisticated in
terms of the needed technology to process its information and run the
program.
6. Images, text and video are used in multimedia encyclopedias, while print
encyclopedias have just text. The multimedia encyclopedia uses these to aide
users in understanding the information better than how they would from just
reading a couple words on a page of a book. THe ways of transport in the
multimedia encyclopedia included hyperlinks, which we could click to related
words, phrases, definitions, and medias to aide in the understanding of certain
things.
