Module 13 Assignment

Government is an important part of a sovereignty, it refers to a governing body

that exercises power, and laws in order to provide peace and order to a particular
group of citizens.

According to Article II Section 1 of the 1987 Philippine Constitution. The

Philippines is a democratic and republican State. Sovereignty resides in the people
and all government authority emanates from them.

The Philippines is under the presidential form of government wherein power is

equally divided among its three branches namely the executive branch, legislative
branch, and judiciary branch.

Philippines is a democratic county where people were given a power in which

they exercise Freedom to participate in political issues of the society. People have a
power to choose who are the people who will lead and serve the country through
election and voting.

Philippines faces various societal issues including the current crisis concerning
Covid -19 pandemic, aside from that there are corruption, poverty, lack of education,
drug addiction and crime related problems. Aside from that there are also an existing
problem in terms, of shortage of water and electricity, agricultural and economic
incompetencies and so much more.

In addition to that, the Philippines are also prone to natural disasters, particularly
typhoons, floods, landslides, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and tsunamis, lying as it
does astride the typhoon belt, in the active volcanic region known as the Pacific Ring
of Fire.
The government and its agencies were responsible in handling and managing this
said issues and problems, a good governance, proper budget allocation and balance in
power were needed in order to provide good service to people.

There are tons of issues and problems that the Philippines and the government
must address in order for us to move forward and develop into a successful country.
But dealing with this is not as easy as we think it was. Its like the Philippines has a
long term battle with different illnesses and until now we are unable to give cure to
any of it.

One of the most concerning problem is the problem in terms of corruption.

Corruption is the dishonest or illegal behavior of government officials or police
officers.

According to the researches of Stefan Sumah, (17 October, 2017). Corruption has
many different shapes as well as many various effects, both on the economy and the
society at large. The common causes of corruption are the political and economic
environment, professional ethics and morality, habits, customs, tradition and
demography. Its effects on the economy (and also on the wider society). Corruption
thus inhibits economic growth and affects business operations, employment and
investments. It also reduces tax revenue and the effectiveness of various financial
assistance programs. The wider society is influenced by a high degree of corruption in
terms of lowering of trust in the law and the rule of law, education and consequently
the quality of life access to infrastructure, health care will also get affected.

Corruption has a massive societal impact especially in the different sectors that
are essentials for the growth of a country. It had been widely known that the
Philippine government its agencies and some political individuals were involved in
various cases concerning corruption, and if we still not address this serious problem, it
could lead the country to a much more worse situation, because the funds and budgets
that were allotted for the growth and development of the country, the funds will just
benefit those greedy and selfish politicians and those who were in power.
Politicians and other Individual who were involved in any corruption must be
prohibited in running to any kind of political positions. A clear record of an individual,
should be added as a qualifications for any government position. Government
transparency in terms of the budget allocations and allotment to any kind of
government projects and programs must be shown publicly, and Any person who
would find guilty of corruption must be subjected in to a longer sentence in jail,
because they are a cancer of this society.

Problems against corruption must be addressed in order for us to obtain a good

development, in order for the government to provide good projects and programs.
