Instruction: Evaluate an interface of an Mobile application.

Topic Choice: Shopee

In the past decade, the world has witnessed a significant change in shopping behavior.
People today are more likely than ever to purchase products through their mobile devices. Shopee
is one of the most popular online shopping sites in the Philippines. Shopee Pte. Ltd. (Shopee) is a
Singaporean multinational e-commerce-focused technology company. Shopee, which is a part of
Sea Limited, started out in Singapore in 2015 and has since grown to other countries.
As of 2021, it will receive 343 million monthly visitors, making it the largest e-commerce
platform in Southeast Asia. The company also helps people in East Asia (Taiwan), Latin America
(Bolivia), and Europe (Poland) buy and sell things online.

As we learned about the 10 usability heuristics and evaluated our chosen app, Shopee, we
can see that Shopee's user interface is easy for both new and experienced users to understand. The
product detail page is one of the most important parts of the app. It tells users everything they need
to know about a product and how to buy it. The menu at the bottom of the page about a product
has three buttons. The bottom menu has a link to chat, an "add to cart" button, and a "buy now"
button. The options make it easier for users to move forward with products they're interested in,
whether they want to buy them or ask the seller about them.

Figure 1: 10 Usability Heuristics

Prototype
While exploring and evaluating the Shopee mobile app, we observed that there are some
parts of the interface that we think are not user-friendly for new users that might want to try the
app, and we would like to make a suggestion towards it.
As shown in Figure 2, we noticed that there are too many icons that don’t correlate with
on what the app is all about: online shopping. It makes the main interface of the app look cluttered
and is probably not that easy to navigate with if you’re someone who is using the app for the first
time. Even though some icons are recognizable, the font is rather small, making it harder for people
who have smaller-sized phones to see what the words say, especially in other parts of the interface
where it doesn’t have icons. However, this issue can be reduced by trying to incorporate a fewer
amount of items and clearer, larger text on the Shopee homepage. (See Figure 3).
