2. Attempt any three parts of the following: Each part carries equal marks (10 X 3 = 30)

a) Draw Shear force & bending moment diagram for the beam as given in fig. (CO1)

b) What do you understand by refrigeration & also explain construction & working of domestic
refrigeration with neat sketch (CO2)
c) Establish the Euler equation of motion & further Bernoulli’s theorem through a stream tube. Mention
the assumption made. (CO3)
d) What do you understand by pressure measurement? Write the name of various technique to Measure
pressure. Illustrate any one with neat sketch (CO4)
e) (i) What is mechatronics? Mention few industrial applications of mechatronics
(ii) Define & explain the terms Autotronics, bionics & avionics (CO5)

a) Sketch stress – strain diagram for ductile material and explain its salient features. How does stress –
strain curve for brittles materials differ from this curve. (CO1)
b) A rod ABCD rigidly fixed at ends A & D is subjected to two equal & opposite forces P= 25KN at B
& C as shown in figure (CO1)

c) Define shear force & bending moment and also derive relationship between load intensity, shear force
and Bending moment. (CO1)

a) Compare SI engine with CI engine. (CO2)


b) What is the meant by COP? Set up relation for the COP of a heat pump and that of a refrigerator.
Proceed to show that
(COP) heat pump = 1 + (COP) refrigerator (CO2)
c) What is meant by comfort air-conditioning? Give brief description of its various type. ( CO2)

5. Attempt any two question: (5 X 2 = 10)

a) What is meant by intensity of pressure? State & prove pascal’s law (CO3)
b) A gauge on the suction side of the pump shows a negative pressure of 0.285 bar. Express this pressure
in terms of (i) pressure intensity kPa (ii) N/m 2 absolute (iii) m of water gauge (iv) m of oil (specific
gravity 0.85) absolute and (v) cm of mercury gauge. Take atmospheric Pressure as 76 cm of mercury
and relative density of mercury as 13.6. (CO3)
c) Explain with a neat sketch the construction & operation of hydraulic lift. (CO3)
