Introduction

           The success of a manufacturing company depends on the

effectiveness of the distribution of human resources to every assembly line. Different

companies are investing resources to improve the effectiveness of production lines

by a series of methods which includes observing, video recording, data collection,

analyzing, data interpretation, and providing a proposed improvement.

           A production line is an arrangement of machines or a sequence of operations

involved with a single manufacturing operation or production process. A production

line consists of processes geared toward an end product. The production line plays

a vital role in the company since it is where the products are produced. Its

effectiveness is measured by the number of outputs produced over a certain time.

To increase productivity in the company, the researchers will utilize the line

balancing method. 

The line balancing method is a production method that involves balancing

human and machine time to match the production rate to the takt time [1]. Line

balancing is constructing a smooth production flow by distributing functions to

employees so that each worker may complete the assigned task within a given time

range. It is the challenge of equally allocating workloads to workstations while

maximizing one or more goals without going over any line limits. Also, line balancing

aims to reduce or remove the bottlenecks and waste that is occurring within the

production line.
           Since productivity has always been one of many businesses' goals since it is

crucial to a company, challenging the system may be able to benefit the company in

long-term profitability and development.  

Statement of the Problem

This study titled “Application of Line Balancing Method on the Allocation of

Manpower in Ram Foods Inc.” aims to increase the productivity in RAM Foods Inc

by 30% using the line balancing method. The researchers want to determine the

following specifics:

1. the current process and human resource allocation of the:

1.1. hot sauce production line

1.2. oyster sauce production line

2. the occurring bottlenecks in the production of:

2.1. hot sauce

2.2. oyster sauce

3. the non-value-added motions in the production of:

3.1. hot sauce

3.2. oyster sauce

4. the improved process and human resource allocation of the:

4.1. hot sauce production line

4.2. oyster sauce production line

5. The current and improved productivity rates of:

5.1. hot sauce production line


5.2. oyster sauce production line

Scope and Limitations

This study was conducted in RAM foods Inc. Cabuyao Branch. It focuses on

the condiments bottling section specifically the line 1 and line 3 where the hot sauce

and oyster sauce are manufactured. All the process of manufacturing both oyster

sauce and hot sauce from filling to packaging are included except for cooking.

This study was conducted during the academic year 2022-2023 and such that

the timeframe was enough to conduct this research and arrive at conclusions and

recommendations within or before the said academic year.
