Title: Fort Santiago in Intramuros

Narrative:
1. What important event in Rizal’s life held in the location/place?
• Fort Santiago earned a fearsome reputation among Filipinos because it kept
Philippine national hero Jose Rizal just before his execution. The fort is now a
memorial to its most famous prisoner, the Philippine national hero Jose Rizal. His
statue is located in the plaza's heart. Jose Rizal was imprisoned in the Fort Santiago
barracks on the western side of Plaza de Armas from November 3 to December 29,
1896, and sentenced to death for his role in a brewing revolution against Spanish
rule. Rizal was marched from Fort Santiago through Postigo Gate to Bagumbayan
Field (the site of today's Rizal Park) and executed by firing squad on December 30,
1896.
2. Why did you choose such location/place and what thus the pictures mean in appreciating
Rizal life as a youth?
• I chose Fort Santiago because it was here that Rizal was imprisoned after fighting
for our country against colonizers.
