 On 6 October 1896, Jose Rizal was seized


in Barcelona, Spain, while on his way to
Cuba to serve as a military
doctor. After being deported to the
Philippines, he was detained at Fort
Santiago. From November 3 to December
29, 1896, Jose Rizal was held in the
Fort Santiago barracks on the western
side of Plaza de Armas, How many days

This brick barracks, which was first built
in the 16th century, has been in a ruined
state since its destruction during the
Battle of Manila in 1945. Here Jose Rizal

Hulyo 6, 1892, si Jose Rizal ay nakulong
sa Fort Santiago at ipinatapon
sa Dapitan noong Hulyo 14, 1892. Apat na
taon siya namalagi sa Dapitan kung saan
nanggamot siya sa mga maysakit at
hinikayat niya ang mamamayan na magbukas
ng paaralan. Hinikayat din niya ang ito
sa pagpapaunlad ng kanilang kapaligaran.

banished to Dapitan in Zamboanga on
house arrest upon his return to the
country in 1892. When outright rebellion
broke out in 1896 (not with his
complicity), Rizal was incarcerated in
Fort Santiago in October, and executed
on Dec. 30, 1896.
 Fort Santiago was the place of Rizal's
execution in 1898. The place also served
as barracks for Spanish artillery
soldiers during Spain's colonisation.
During his stay here, the hero wrote his
famous poem Mi Ultimo Adios (My Last
Farewell) and hid it in an oil lamp that
was given to her sister Trinidad. 
 The Rizal Shrine, also known as the
Museo ni José Rizal Fort Santiago
(transl. Museum of Jose Rizal in Fort
Santiago) is a museum dedicated to the
lifework of José Rizal. It is located on
Santa Clara Street, Fort Santiago,
Intramuros, Manila, Philippines.
