DTSI is digital twin spark ignition engine. It uses two spark plug instead of one in ordinary engine.

The
concept behind that is to reduce the unburnt fuel inside the engine cylinder thereby increasing the power.

DTSI - Digital Twin Spark Ignition Technology. We know that in petrol engine we require spark plugs to
initiate ignition of A/F mixture. In DTSI instead of one sparkplug we have two plugs. More over when
these sparkplugs should initiate the spark is determined by microcomputers. In India it was Bajaj who are
having patents for their 150-220CC bikes.

See the full form of DTSI is " Digital Twin Spark Ignition".

As it is for spark ignition so it will be applicable for only petrol engines. This technology is used for the
efficient combustion of the charge (i.e air-fuel mixture). In it we use " two spark plugs" so that the fuel
is ignited properly, for maximum economy and efficiency.

 Digital - Since the spark generation will be initiated by a microchip.

 Twin - Since two spark plugs will be used.
 Spark ignition - Since the ignition will be done via a spark.

DTS I - DIGITAL TWIN SPARK IGNITION SYSTEM
In the world of new high speed cars and bikes to achieve maximum engine power, top fuel efficiency and
minimum emission levels during all type of operating condition. The digital spark ignition is the best
alternative for conventional ignition control. Computerized control gives accurate timing for all operating
condition. At the same time use of two spark plug improves thermodynamic efficiency and power
available.

Digital Twin Spark Ignition (DTS-i) technology is a brand new automobile engine technology gives a
brilliant combination of power & mileage together.

In DTS-i system with swirl induction the rate of ignition timing is better control &fuel is ignited as much
as possible, over all it increases the total thermal efficiency of the engine.

dear friend,
dtsi- it is digital twin spark ignition.
dtssi- it is digital twin swirl spark ignition.
nowadays dtssi is also quite popular since it gives better turbulence inside the engine for the circulation
of charge.
because of this swirling motion there is rapid mixing and combustion. as a result physical and chemical
delay in combustion is less. and most important of all less tendency of knocking in si engine.

dtsi is stand for digital twin spark ignition this tech. is introduced by BMW F650 FUNDURO...in 1995-
97...but BAJAJ AUTO is implementing in Two wheeler in PULSER from 2003..this tech, is used to burn
complete fuel air mix.

DTS-i means digital twin spark ignition.basically, this technology introduces usage of two spark plugs
which are having approx. 90 degree angle which ensures complete fuel combustion as well as better fuel
economy. The idea basically invented to burn complete fuel which especially does not occurs as in case of
conventional two wheelers.

Everyone might have heard of the motorcycles powered by DTSI and DTS-SI technology. So here is a
quick look at what this technology is and if it is better than the technologies used in a normal (non-DTSI)
powered bikes.

DTSI stands for Digital twin spark ignition. The technology is

currently used in Bajaj motorcycles in India because they have patent rights. Digital twin spark ignition
technology powered engine has spark plugs at either sides of the combustion chamber. Engines powered
by DTSI technology will have greater combustion rate because of twin spark plugs located around it.
DTSI technology enables the engine to combust fuel at double rate than normal, this enhances both
engine life and makes it fuel-efficient i.e. better as regards mileage
Aside of making the engine fuel efficient, the technology also enriches the power of the bike. The
technology also results in smoother operation, adjusts the engine to varied temperature fluctuations and
makes the motorbike resistant too breakdown. Overall, the bikes with the technology are supposed to live
longer, run smoother with high fuel efficiency.
DTS-SI on the other hand is an upgraded version of the present DTSI technology developed by research
and development team of Bajaj and they have patented it too. Under this technology, the digital twin
spark plugs are located at same place like in DTSI technology engines but in an inclined or diagonal
manner. This offset of things further expounds the process of combustion and makes the ignition of fuel
and air faster, resulting in enhanced power and expanded fuel efficiency.

Some primary features of DTSI and DTS-SI technologies are:

 The engine becomes powerful and fuel-efficient.
 The expected life of the motorcycle increases.
 Bikes powered by the technologies are very well resistant to breakdowns and temperature
fluctuations.
 The throttle response considerably enhances.
As of now, only Bajaj manufactures bikes with both the technology, as it is the only manufacturer in India
holding patent over the technology for small bikes. One classic example of DTS-SI powered bike is XCD
125. This was all about DTSI and DTS-SI, in the next article we will take the concept further to know
about DTS-FI.

DTS-i and DTS-Si are Bajaj Auto exclusive technologies in India. DTS-i was first introduced
in the Pulsar 150/180 models in 2003. The DTS-Si technology came in the XCD 125 in 2007
and currently also available on Platina 125 and XCD 135.

What is DTS-i Technology?

To understand it one first needs to be familiar with the functioning of a Conventional 4

Stroke Engine (with single Spark Plug).

DTS-i stands for Digital Twin Spark Plug Ignition. In simple words it means that there are 2
spark plugs in the single cylinder engine and the timing of sparkplugs are controlled by a
digital microprocessor.

The big difference between a conventional 4 stroke engines and the DTS-i engine is the
incorporation of 2 Spark Plugs. The 2 spark plug set up leads to better burning of the air
fuel mixture, which results in delivering better fuel efficiency without any compromise in
power.

Benefits of DTS-i Technology

With a DTS-i engine, one gets the dual benefit of good fuel coupled with good power as
well.

The evidence of the effectiveness of this technology is clearly demonstrated by the

eagerness of other manufacturers like Royal Enfield, which have launched a model, the
Thunderbird “Twin Spark”.

What is DTS-Si Technology?

Like the DTS-i engine, the DTS-Si engine also has 2 Spark Plugs, the timing of which is
controlled by a Digital Microprocessor. The difference between these two engines is the
offset position of the inlet and outlet ports of the DTS-Si engine. This offset position creates
turbulence of the air-fuel mixture inside the engine.
Benefits of DTS-Si Technology: This enhances the fuel efficiency of the engine even further.
