TOPIC 1 – Introduction to Industrial Security Management

Definitions of Term:
INDUSTRY
 Earnest or constant application to work or business.

 A special branch of productive work, or the capital or workers employed in it (Webster,


1993).
 Large-scale production or organized economic activity connected with the production,
manufacture, or construction of a particular product or range of products. (Microsoft
Encarta, 2001-2005)
INDUSTRIAL
 This is defined as “pertaining to or engaged in industry”. (Webster, 1993)

SECURITY
 A state or condition of being secured.

 Freedom from fear, harm, danger, loss, destruction or damage.

 To secure is to make safe or be protected.

INDUSTRIAL SECURITY
 Security measures applied to business industries (Manwong and Delizo, 2006).

 The business of providing security and protection to private individuals, business and
enterprises, or government and non-government industries.
INDUSTRIAL SECURITY MANAGEMENT
 Security measures applied to business industries.

 The business of providing security and protection to private individuals, business


enterprises, or government and non-government organizations.
IDENTITY THEFT
 The criminal act of assuming another person’s identity.

ACCESS CONTROLS
 Regulate people, vehicles, and items during movement into, out of, and within a building or
facility.
CONTROL POINT
 An area established for positive personnel identification and movement control.

HAZARD
 Is any act or condition which may result in the compromise of information, loss of life, loss or
destruction of property or disruption of the objectives of the installation.
SECURITY AND SAFETY MEASURES
ACTIVE MEASURES
 Are the physical barriers, security lighting, safe and vaults, locks and other devices and
gadgets designed to detect and impeded the hazards.
PASSIVE MEASURES
 Are those that will deter man from committing such act for fear of being caught, or charged
in court or get dismissed.
TYPES OF SECURITY
PHYSICAL SECURITY
 It is concerned with the physical measures adopted to prevent unauthorized access to
equipment, facilities, materials and documents.
COMMUNICATION SECURITY
 It is the protection resulting from the application of various measures that prevent or delay
the enemy or unauthorized person in gaining information through communication system.
HOTEL SECURITY
 It refers to the protection of assets, guests, personal effect and other properties in hotels,
inns, and other similar establishments.
BANK SECURITY
 A specialized type of physical security protecting the assets, personnel, and operation of a
bank, with special emphasis on the precaution and measures to safeguard the cash and
assets while the storage, in transit, and during transaction.
DOCUMENT SECURITY
 it is the physical security involving the protection of documents and classified papers from
loss access by unauthorized persons, damage, theft and compromise through disclosure.
PERSONAL SECURITY
 this involves the projection personnel especially ranking officials from any harm, kidnap, and
other acts.
CRISES SECURITY
 this is a part of VIP security involved hostage and kidnapping of VIP’s.

OPERATIONAL SECURITY
 this is a type of security that deals primarily with the protection of processes, formula,
patents and other industrial and manufacturing activities from espionage, infiltration, loss,
compromise, or photocopying.
LEGAL BASES
PRESIDENTIAL DECREE 11
 widened the coverage of R.A. 5487, it includes those security guards employed in agriculture
and mining.
PRESIDENTIAL DECREE 100
 includes those employed by both local and national government.

REPUBLIC ACT NO. 6975


 The law that created the public safety agencies.

 Absorbed PCSUSIA to the PNP and change it into PNP-CSG, SAGDA or the SECURITY
AGENCIES AND SECURITY AND INVESTIGATION AGENCIES.

MAY 30, 1958
 PADPAO or Philippine Association of Detectives and Protective Agency Operators was
formally organized.
JUNE 13, 1969
 Private Security Agency Law or R.A. 5487 was passed into law.

OCTOBER 3, 1972
 P.D. 11 was passed
JANUARY 17, 1973
 P.D. 100 was issued
