Activity 2:

A. Astatine
B. F2: LDF

Br2: LDF

At2: LDF

C. For any given chemical, intermolecular forces are highest in the solid state and smallest in the
gaseous state. The bigger the molecule, the larger the electron cloud and, as a result, the more
intermolecular force is possible.

D. F2 < Br2 < At2

E. Intermolecular forces (IMFs) can be used to predict relative boiling points. The stronger the IMFs,
the lower the vapor pressure of the substance and the higher the boiling point.

What’s More

Activity 1.1

1. A. Ion – dipole 2. A. Soluble 3. Methane < Ethane < Methanol

B. LDF B. Insoluble Methanol < Ethanol <

C. dipole-dipole C. Insoluble Ethylene glycol

D. H-bonding D. Soluble

E. Soluble

What I Have Learned

1. Electrostatic interactions that exist between molecules are called intermolecular forces. These
attractive forces influence various physical properties, such as melting point, boiling point, and
solubility.

2. Intermolecular forces In the order of weakest to strongest:

Dispersion force. Weakest

Dipole-dipole force.

Hydrogen bond.

Ion-dipole force.

Strongest

What I Can Do

In this pandemic situation, we need to save energy in preparing the food. So as a physical science
student, I will put pork in the pot and cover it with plate such that the steam will not be able to come
outside from the pot and I will cover the whole pot with the insulting material such as sand and mud
so that heat could not transferred in the environment. and then I will burn below the pot as the water
starts to boil then due to the increase in the steam pressure then inter-molecular force inside the pot
will increase and food will cooked early as compared to normal and in this process the loss of energy
will be less.
