Assignment 3 (5%)

A. Objective: To illustrate concepts learnt meaningfully using creativity.

B. Background:

We are coming to the end of the semester, and it is time to put your learning into
application! In this assignment, we are looking for these elements:
- Creativity, Originality and Humour (good to have, but optional)

C. Instruction:

You are to design an infographic poster aimed at educating the reader on ONE
to THREE mathematical concept(s) learnt from MF1.

- You are free to design it by hand, or digitally.

- You must use concepts found in the syllabus.
➢ If concepts outside of the syllabus are used, they MUST be in tandem
with the concept within syllabus (refer to example on the next page*).
- The poster must be contained within 1 page (it is a poster).
➢ If you need more space, you can always use sizes larger than A4.
- The poster can either be portrait or landscape.
- The rule of thumb on the number of concepts you choose to use is dependent
on the depth of the concepts chosen.
➢ If one concept takes up the whole poster, that will suffice.
➢ You can combine up to three concepts for sufficient content.
- Include a write-up at the bottom to explain the illustration in your poster.

All citations must be done to give credit to the source. You are reminded not to
plagiarise work off any person or source and submit it as your own. Violations will be
dealt with in accordance with the NP Plagiarism Clause.

Note:
Late submissions: After the deadline, 10% per day of the assignment weightage will be deducted up
to a maximum of 7 calendar days (including weekends and PH), after which a zero mark is awarded.
For example:
- A student submits a 40-Mark assignment on Monday, 3 days after the deadline on a Friday.
- The submission scores 35/40.
- 12 marks will be deducted from the student’s score (4 marks per day x 3 days).
- The final score is 23/40.
Students may request for extensions of the deadline if there are valid reasons, as follows:
- Illness supported by a medical certificate.
- Bereavement in the family.
- Other valid reasons deemed acceptable by the school.
Extensions should be sought before the due date, wherever possible.

Write-up:
We learnt how to use Desmos in this module, so I played around with some equations and
found that graphs come in many different shapes. Here, I found some equations that drew
out letters and arranged them to form a word. The first letter “L” is based on the concept of
inverse proportion, learnt in Chapter 7. We can see that as 𝑥 increases, 𝑦 decreases,
forming an inverse relationship graphically, which drew out the letter “L”.
*While the other equation concepts are not covered in our syllabus, they were used to form
the other letters necessary for the word.
