Pre-start review will take into account: location of work, fire safety/prevention needs, materials to be
worked, available ventilation, other works in progress in the area, local site rules and statuary
requirements.
Permit to work system must apply where there is a significant fire risk or where work is within confined
space.
Suitable screens and fire blankets should be readily available to protect flammables and persons from
sparks and heat.
Where ventilation is poor, local exhaust ventilation should be installed.
Warning notices must be displayed to inform other site users and visitors of the working area.
Operatives must check equipment at the start of shift and disconnect when not in attendance.
Personal jewellery must be removed from hands and wrists of operators.
PPE, such as gloves, boots, overalls, aprons, eye protection, will be provided and worn.
All necessary fire prevention equipment, and fire extinguishers, will be checked and must be in place prior
to the commencement of work.
No work will take place in areas where the presence of flammable or explosive substances is suspected
without specific assessment.
Fire Wardens will be detailed where there is a significant risk of fire or heat transfer to adjacent areas.
A check of the work area will be carried out by management on completion of the shift or the work, for any
possibility of latent fire hazards, including smouldering.
