1. General information
The Xuzhou Hirschmann load moment indicator (ab. LMI) HC4900 has been designed
to provide the crane operator with the effective information required to enable the
machine to be used within its design parameters.
Using various sensing devices, the load moment indicator monitors crane’s various
work functions and provide the operator with a continuous reading of the crane’s
capacity. The readings continuously change as the crane executes different work.
The LMI provides the operator with information regarding the length and angle of the
boom, tip height, working radius, rated load and the total calculated weight being
lifted by the crane.
If no permitted conditions are approached, the HC4900 Load Moment Indicator will
warn the operator by sounding an audible alarm, lighting a warning light and locking
out those functions that may aggravate the crane’s condition.

2. Warnings
The LMI is an operational aid which warns crane operator of approaching overload
conditions and also warns of over-hoist conditions which could cause damage to
equipment and personnel.
The device is not, and shall not be a substitute for good operator’s judgment,
experience and use of accepted safe crane operating procedures.
The responsibility for the safe operation of the crane shall remain with the crane
operator who shall ensure that all warnings and instructions supplied are fully
understood and observed.

Notice
If the program of LMI and the load chart is correct and the OM set correct,
the display content will help a lot for the operator. To prevent property damage or
serious bodily injury or death to personnel, ensure the LMI is properly
programmed before the LMI to be installed.

-4-
User manual

Proper operation is dependent upon proper daily inspection and observations of the
operating instructions set forth in this manual.

3. System description
The HC4900 LMI system can be installed on various kinds of cranes to measure the
load moment and judge whether it is overload to protect the crane from dangerous
operation.
Because of the load moment value is not easy to measure and even to inspect by eyes,
it can result in the operator’s wrong judgment. While HC4900 system can monitor the
real-time status of crane operation that enables the operation to keep in safety ranges.
The HC4900 system can monitor the crane information such as boom length, boom
angle, max hoist height, working radius, rated capacity and actual load, etc. The LMI
calculated the load moment value from the force component’s measuring data. When
the operation exceed the allowed safety range the LMI will send warning signal to the
LCD Graphic screen and send control signal to the central unit to warn the operator to
stop the illegal operation.
The following chapters will describe the characteristics, functions, operation methods
and notices about HC4900 LMI.

cable reel when rotate the cable reel).

4. Pull out the cable and fix it on the tip of the boom again

5. After pre-tight the cable reel the display of the boom length will be affected, so

at this moment please adjust the length sensor till the displayed value the same with

the actual length.

Notice
The operator shall be careful the above calibration. The crane
can only be operated under correct adjustment and confirmation
after adjustment.

9. Error information and malfunction solved method

In case of a system malfunction or fault operation, an error code to identify the error
source will be displayed on the LCD. The code numbers listed in the malfunction table
identify various malfunctions that might occur in the LMI system which may cause by
operating faults of the crane operator or by exceeding preset areas.
