STREET ART.

My work shows a street art conveying an issue that has been going on for decades or even
centuries. The inspiration behind this piece was a black man named George Floyd who was
killed by an American police man last year in May. Racism is something that is everywhere and
living in the 21st century people think that’s its over but George Floyd is a big example and many
other nonwhite people are a big example that it’s not over. George’s killer did get sentenced to
jail for 22+ years but if it was black man who did the same thing he would have been sentenced
to death. Another factor is that no one defend a person of color until he dies and or get justice.
Before going to my final painting I experimented with different elements and created samples
out of them.
My work was inspired by street artist Jordan roots who dedicated this to another black woman
Breonna Taylor and his message was that The mural addresses the fact that racism is injected
into our society even if there is “caution tape” in the way. Racism ultimately leads to death.
Justice would lead to life if we could break the caution tape and inject that into our society."

SAMPLING
 The first sample show the black lives matter fist. I used poster paints for this sample. I
used different shades of brown with a bit of black to give it a contour type look.

 Then I experiment with ribbons, I created a grid type background in shades yellow and
green. On top of that I wrote #BLM with a red permanent marker but the marker
smudged due to the fabric of the ribbons.
 I used water color markers in shades blue purple and red and to give it a 3D type effect I
wrote in a darker shade on top of that.

 Another sample that I made is a skeleton face to represent the death of George Floyd in
this painting I used acrylic paint the skull and a black water color marker for the
background and eyes of the skull.

 In this sample I first created an orange type shade and added more water than needed
to give it a poster color/water color effect. Then I used a darker shade and created cloud
type shaper on top of that. To write #BLM I used a red and green permanent marker.
 I decided to use soft pastels for this sample with a green background and red color for
the clouds. I used orange to write #BLM with a stencil.

 For this sample I used a grey watercolor pencil for the background and yellow and red
acrylics markers to write I Can’t Breathe.

 Another sample I made was the half face of George Floyd. For this I used shades of
oranges and purple for the face and black for the hair and beard. The eyes had a shade
of brown and black.

Final
For my final art piece, I used different elements from poster paints to a jute thread.
First I made printed put a portrait of George Floyd and traced it the half face on a canson sheet.
Then I painted t with different shades of orange for the majority of the face and purple for
some other parts e.g. the side face or blended it with orange on the chin area. After that I took
an A3 sized watercolor sheet and sketched out my composition. I first sketched out the skull
and traced the cut piece of George Floyd so I would know where to draw and paint. After this I
sketched out two blm fists and on top of that I wrote I can’t breathe in 3D. I also left a 2-3cm
border. I painted the I can’t breathe in a 3D effect and painted the back part with watercolor
markers and the front with yellow acrylic paint. for the fist I used two shades of brown to show
that it’s not only the black people who are going through this but brown people too. a for the
skull I used white and black poster paint as well as a permanent marker for the outlines and
mouth. For the background I combined blue, green and balck acrylic paint to create a blueish/
greenish effect and splashed an orange/red poster pain. I pasted the face on the side of the
skull and wrote #BLM on the bottom with a soft pastel. As for the border I pasted a jute thread
on all four sides
