The 2nd IEEE International Conference on Sensors and Nanotechnology (SENSORS AND NANO 2021) has been
successfully held virtually from 22nd – 23rd September 2021. The event was officiated by YB Datuk Haji Ahmad
Amzad b. Hashim, the Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI). Around 40 technical
papers were presented during this conference by the participants which covers various topics in the field of
sensors and nanotechnology, varying from materials, devices to emerging sensors and learning applications. In
addition to the oral presentation of the technical papers, this conference was also joined by 5 keynote speakers
and 6 invited speakers, which include the IEEE Distinguished Lecturer from the Sensors Council. The Conference

The IEEE SPS organized a webinar on Human Action Recognition by Prof. Dr. Syed Ab Rahman Abu Bakar,
on the 14 July 2021. The webinar focused on challenges on parameters and variables influencing human
action recognition. In doing so, the progress made in this field can be appreciated.
IEEE SPS and UTP jointly conducted the 3rd Scientific Forum with Central Institute of Technology
Kokrajhar as MoU partner, on a forum with the theme focus on Recent Advancement on Geomechanics &
Geotechnics. The event was held on 27th July 2021. The free event was open to all participants including

Webinar : Visual Signal Processing : Objective to Subjective Problems
Assoc. Prof. Dr. John See was the speaker for the talk organized by the IEEE SPS titled, Visual Signal
Processing : Objective to Subjective Problems. This talk focused on subjective problems that are less
deterministic in nature in the field of visual signal processing which covers the processing and analysis of
visual data such as image and videos. The talk was conducted on the 11th of August 2021 and was
attended by 41 participants.

IEEE ICSIPA is the flagship conference of the IEEE Signal Processing Society Malaysia Chapter and was held
from 13 – 15 September 2021. Keynotes were given by renowned speakers, Prof. Dong Xu (Uni. Sydney),
Prof. Jing-Ming Guo (National Taiwan Uni.), Prof. Celia Shahnazand (IEEE SPS WISP), Prof Leonardo
Tomazeli (Uni. Campinas, Brazil), Dr. Mark Chia (Mobius Group), Ir. Dr. Nordin Ramli (MI MOS Berhad) and
Mr. Tan Pei Seng (ViTrox Corp Berhad). This is the first time the event is conducted online. 46 papers were
presented, with 37% international researchers.

Covid19. This charity program covers eight different

Jelatek . The families were given monetary donations
and household supplies to help ease their burden
during this pandemic. Around 240 families received the

IEEE IMS Final Year Project Award at IIUM
IEEE IMS Malaysia Chapter has sponsored two awards for
2021 Final Year Project Award organized by International
Islamic University Malaysia. The awards are given to
encourage FYP projects related to area of
instrumentation and measurement. IEEE IMS awarded
the first prize with RM200 and RM100 for the second
prize along with certificates. The award winner for the
first place went to Ammar Azizi Bin Jasni with project
entitled “Tributary Water Depth and Velocity Remote
Monitoring System”, and the runner up went to Ismah
Zakirah Binti Ismail with project entitled “Dynamic
Position Control for Unmanned Small Vehicle
(Applicationfor Vessel) .”

(ITS) Student Branch program has been successfully held virtually on 28th August 2021. This event is an idea
from IEEE ITS SB which aims to establish good relations and help hold a benchmarking program with the IEEE
UiTM Student Branch. There are two main activities in this program which are presentations and general
discussions. Completion of this program is preceded by a presentation session delivered by representatives of
IEEE UiTM SB and IEEE ITS SB. This program achieved the objectives which are to establishing good relations
with IEEE ITS SB and provide an opportunity to get to know other organizations. Moreover, this is an
opportunity to get involved in internationalization programs.

members. A demonstration for primary school students
is expected to be conducted at the end of October 2021.
The demonstration is part of the energy saving
