The document discusses pre-eclampsia, a pregnancy complication characterized by high blood pressure and organ damage, most often to the liver and kidneys. It describes a case study of a 30-year old pregnant patient experiencing symptoms of pre-eclampsia including ankle swelling, abdominal pain, and headache. The patient's care is observed, including the midwife introducing herself, assessing the patient, consulting with senior staff, and delivering clear explanations and treatment which included medication to lower blood pressure. When the patient's condition declined, an emergency was declared and an interprofessional healthcare team worked collaboratively using an algorithm and emergency supplies to treat the patient. The document emphasizes the importance of teamwork, communication, sharing knowledge and being attent

Pre-eclampsia is a pregnancy complication characterized by high blood pressure
and signs of damage to another organ system, most often the liver and kidneys. Some causes of this condition include the damage to the blood vessels, problem with the immune system, insufficient blood flow to the uterus and certain genes. As it seen in virtual drill of pre-eclampsia that a patient Rachel, 30 years old, 39 weeks pregnant and a primigravida experienced ankle oedema, abdominal pain & headache and her blood pressure was high. This condition is a serious during pregnancy that a healthcare provider should give much attention on it. Severe pre-eclampsia clinical priorities are control blood pressure, prevent seizures, restrict fluids and plan for birth. As I observed in the unit, the patient taking her rest when the midwife came and she first introduce herself, build rapport to the patient as she asked the patient’s name, what she feels, what she experiencing before she assesses the patient. The midwife does her job very well. As she done assessing the patient, she asked her senior midwife help and explained everything she does with the patient. She delivered and handover it well. As they are talking, they make an eye contact, being active listener, being attention to the details of what the midwife stating and have good communication skill. For the patient management, I noticed that they did it clear/ explained her what to do very well and give medication that the patient’s need. They ask her a urine testing and blood testing to know the condition of her pregnancy, give patient medication to lower her blood pressure, check her reflexes, they give her nifedipine (10 milligram), they give paracetamol for patient’s headache, patient’s had asthma, and they monitor the baby’s condition. When Rachel not feeling well, they check her blood pressure and declare emergency because of severe pre-eclampsia. For the collaborative management by the interprofessional team, As the health worker team gets in, the midwife explained everything to the obstetrics consultants/ leader, I noticed that the team is very active, attentive and help each other by suggesting what to do. As the pre- eclampsia emergency box came, they plan on what to do, they discussed and work as a team to treat the patient. The algorithm helps the team leader and the emergency box & tools help them to manage the emergency. As a team, I noticed that they are all active listener, have good communication skills, sharing opinions/ knowledge and they are very attentive. Teamwork is important in a healthcare setting. It can solve the problems easily by sharing ideas and knowledge. It makes work more efficient, that can lead to successful outcome. Good communication and teamwork skills is very important in providing quality of health care to the patients. Teamwork reduces medical errors and make the patient’s satisfaction. It also leads to a happier and healthier workplace. It is also important to know time management, being adaptability is needed also, being attentive to listen and act and always think positive to do things very well. Teamwork abilities can manage emergencies.
