Mr. Velez
DIRECTOR OF LICENSED PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM
SIERRA TUCSON
39580 S. LAGO DEL ORO PARKWAY, TUCSON, AZ 85739

Dear Mr. Velez,

I am thrilled to be writing to you today to apply for the open Registered Nurse Position at Sierra Tucson. I heard you were
seeking new nurses from my peers in our public health rotation earlier this month due to their knowledge of my passion
for psychiatric nursing. I am completing my BSN at the University of Arizona this coming December, have some prior
experience working as a certified nursing assistant, and recently completed my psychiatric clinical rotation at Palo Verde
Behavioral Health.

Throughout my entire program, I found the psychiatric rotation to be where I fit best. Though there are not nearly as
many technical skills aspects to the field, my particular set of skills are best suited in communicating with patients and
empathizing. When seeing patients going in and out of medical surgical or other bedside units, I came to realize patients
felt a unique sense of comfort when talking with me and that I was more and more frequently making the greatest impact
when focusing more on my clients’ whole person rather than just their physical ailments. More often than not, something
as simple as taking the extra five minutes to sit with them and offer support in ways besides just medications such as a
quick therapeutic massage or just being there to talk and hold their hand would greatly improve their moods and turn
their days around. I noticed doing so has allowed me to comfortably work with and ease otherwise more agitated and
distressed patients on more than one occasion. Because of these reasons and the abundantly holistic approaches of
treatment offered along with the heavy emphasis of immersion in the outdoors, I find myself having much to offer as well
as learn at Sierra Tucson.

Overall, I bring many unique attributes to contribute to your wide range of modalities on the site. Some of these traits
being that I am highly patient and comfortable with various flexible forms of communication. I have learned to exercise
these skills after years of living with and being best friends with people struggling with serious mental illness as well as
autism. Furthermore, I bring much needed diversity to the world of psychiatric nursing especially in terms of being
Indian and bilingual. Being a new graduate heavily interested in innovative strategies in psychiatry and a first generation
Asian American in the United States, I offer a fresh and new perspective to client care that not many others can in this
field. It is highly unfortunate harsh stigmas and uninformed prejudices so heavily plague mental health and addiction
topics particularly within Asian communities and I hope to be a part of the change.

Through my experiences both within my clinical rotations and my personal life, I am confident I can be a bright and well-
suited addition to the team at Sierra Tucson. I eagerly look forward to hearing from you soon and greatly appreciate your
consideration.

Sincerely,

Saloni Singh
