Educ. 9 Facilitating Learner-Centered Teaching

Name: Penny Goyena Besid Block: BSEd III Social Studies
Directions: Discuss the following.
1. To illustrate the harm of alcoholic drinks. Miss Cruz conducted a simple illustration to
the class. Using two beakers (one filled with alcohol and another filled with water) and a
beaker with earthworms, she asked the class what happened to the earthworms inside
the beaker with water and to the earthworms in the beaker of alcohol. After processing
the experience, she asked the class what generalization could they make about the
alcohol. The general consensus was if one drinks alcoholic drinks he or she would die.
One however, disagreed and claimed that if one drinks alcohol, all the worms in the
body would die. How was problem solving, creativity working in this scenario? Explain.

In the scenario, problem solving, creativity, and learning transfer all work. When it
comes to problem solving. The teacher solved the problem by explaining her lessons in
an easy and clear manner. Because she is creative, she solves the problem and
demonstrates the lessons in her simple illustration. She used her creativity to have a
clear discussion, which also benefits the learners because the lessons are easily
understood. In transfer of learning, the teacher transfers her knowledge to the students,
as well as the one who disagreed; transfer of learning works throughout his case
because he learned that in past lessons, which explains why he disagreed, and he
applied it in the current situation.

2. Teachers complain about learners’ preoccupation with electronic gadgets. As a future

teacher, how would you treat this problem as an opportunity for learning?

Technology is rapidly becoming a powerful tool in the twenty-first century.

Because the majority of us use technology in our daily lives. Most of the time, the
younger generations are very connected or active in using their gadgets. That it can
sometimes be a source of destruction for them if used incorrectly. However, technology
offers tremendous opportunities for making learning more effective for everyone with
varying needs. For us Future Teachers, technology can be an opportunity to improve
our teaching skills by learning from a variety of online resources.
As a future educator, I see this challenge as an opportunity because people will
use their technological devices as a tool for learning. My activity will be through games
on their mobile phones, with the game being highly relevant to our studies. I'll also use
educational software to save my lessons and activities, such as Edmodo and Google
Classroom. And as for their assignments, I'll let them send them via Messenger and
Email, Gmail, and so on. So, as teachers, we should not view this as a problem,
because it is an opportunity for both us and the students to learn more easily.
Additionally, we can use technological tools to make traditional teaching methods
more enjoyable in order to motivate students to participate actively. We can also
develop some essential skills for our daily lives through technology because modern
learning is about collaborating with others, improving our critical thinking, developing
different forms of communication, developing strategical thinking on how to solve
complex problems, increasing productivity, and being more motivated and empowered.
