IN MATHEMATICS GRADE 2

Revicca F. Peroso
Pre-Service Teacher
I.OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to;

 Identify the different basic shapes.
 Determine the number of sides that a triangle, rectangle, or square
have.
 Pattern the shapes using clay dough.

II. CONTENT: GEOMETRIC SHAPES (triangles, rectangles, squares)

III. LEARNING REFERENCES
a. References
1. Curriculum Guide
2. Teacher’s Guide
3. Textbook Pages
4. Additional Resources from the Internet
b. Other Learning Resources: Paper, chalk or marker, clay dough, coloring
worksheet, coloring pens, videos
IV. PROCEDURES:
A. Preliminary Activities
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Checking Attendance
 Motivation
Present a song of Shapes Song

After watching the videos, ask the students which shapes they noticed.
Tell students that today they will be learning about shapes with a fun
game.
B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation
 Place a yellow rectangle, red square, and blue rectangle in
front of the students.
 Tell students that you will describe a shape and they are to
guess which one it is.

A triangle has 3 sides and 3 corners. The sides are the

straight lines that make up the triangle. The corners are the
points where two lines meet.
The square is a type of rectangle, but also a type of rhombus.
It has characteristics of both of these. That is to say, all 4
angles are right angles, and all 4 sides are equal in length.
A rectangle is a four-sided shape whose corners are all
ninety-degree angles. Each side of a rectangle is the same
length as the one opposite to it.
 Ask students to think about how a square, and how a
rectangle is different from a triangle.

2. Performing the Activity

 Hand out the coloring worksheet
 Read the instructions and model how the color one or two
shapes.
 Ask students to raise their hands and if they understand what
they will be doing.
 Let them work independently on their seats.
3. Processing the Activity
Remind students that everything in this world is composed of shapes.
And a triangle has 3 sides and 3 corners and the square is a type of
rectangle, but also a type of rhombus. It has characteristics of both of
these and a rectangle is a four-sided shape whose corners are all
ninety-degree angles.
4. Reinforcing the Activity
Hand out the “Pattern Shapes Worksheet”
Through the use of clay dough, students will pattern the sides of the
shapes to form shapes.

5. Summarizing the lesson

What are the basic shapes and how do we compare squares,
rectangles, and triangles? Why are shapes important to our lives?
