A Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 4

(March 15, 2018)

I. Objective
At the end of the lesson, 75% of the pupils should be able to:
1. Describe triangles according to sides and angles.
2. Identify triangles according to sides and angles
3. Participate actively in the discussion and activities given

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Identifying and Describing Triangles
B. Reference: LM Mathematics 4 pages 162-163, TG Mathematics 4 pages 214-216,
M4GE-IIIb-14
C. Materials: Visual Aids, flash cards

III. Procedures:
Teacher’s Activity Pupils’ Activity
A. Preliminary Activities

1. Routinely Activities ( Pupils stand)

Let us pray first. In the name of the Father, of the In the name of the Father, of the Son, and the
Son, and the Holy Spirit………… Holy Spirit……………….

Good morning class! Good morning ma’am!

(Checking of attendance) ( Pupils raise their hand and say present as the
Say present….. teacher calls in their name)

2. Drill
I have here a flash cards. As I show these cards tell Answers may be:
what kind of line they present. Parallel line, intersecting line or perpendicular
line

3. Review
Before we proceed to our new topic, let us recall
first our lesson last meeting. A polygon is closed figure made up of several
What is a polygon? line segments that are joined together.

Correct!

What is a triangle? A triangle is a polygon with 3 sides and 3 angles.

Yes, your right!
Side is a line segments and do not cross each
What is side? What is angle? other. Angles are two rays meet at a common
endpoint.
Yes, your right!

What is quadrilateral? A quadrilateral is a polygon with 4 sides and four

angles.
Very good!

3. Motivation
I have here an illustration of Philippine flag.

3 stars and a sun, different colors such as white,

What can you see in this flag? yellow, blue, red.

What plane figure or polygon can you see in this A triangle

flag?

Yes, it has a plane figure of a triangle

It is a symbol of our love to our country and
For you, what is the symbol of our Philippine flag? citizenship.

That’s right!

Our Philippine flag is a symbol of our love to our

country, our citizenship as well as unity that bond
every Filipinos. That is why we must show respect
to our Philippine flag.

B. Developmental Activity
1. Activity
I will group your class into four. I have here a sheet
of papers wherein there’s an illustration of a big
triangle.

Divide it into small triangles. Figure out

on how many small triangles does it have.

2. Analysis

Let see your outputs.

How many small triangles does it have? It has 8 small triangles ma’am.

Does each group has the same answer? Yes ma’am!

Very good! You got it right! It has 8 small triangles.

From these small triangles, are the sides and angles No ma’am!
equal?

How do you say so? Ma’am because the forms of the triangles are
different with each other.
Yes class you have a point.

3. Abstraction

To make it clear, triangles can be classified

according to their side and angles.

Let’s discuss first the triangles according to their

angles.

You already know that angles are the two rays at a

common end point.
1.
Right Triangle-
has right angle
which measures 90º.

2. Acute Triangle-
has three acute angles
each measures less than 90º.

3. Obtuse Triangle-
has an obtuse angle
which measures more
than 90º but less than 180º.

Now let us discuss the triangles according to their

sides.
Again, sides is a line segments and do not cross
each other.
1. Equilateral Triangle-
has three equal sides.

2. Isosceles Triangle-
has two equal sides.

3. Scalene Triangle-
has no equal sides.

Generalization
The triangles according to angles are right
What are the triangles according to angles? triangle, acute triangle and obtuse triangle.

Very Good! The triangles according to sides are equilateral

triangle, isosceles triangle and scalene triangles.
What are the triangles according to sides?

Very Good!

4. Application
(The pupils are doing their activity)
I will divide you into six groups. Each group
representative will pick a piece of paper in the box.
Each piece of paper has a kind of triangle written
on it. You describe that particular triangle you
chose.

IV. Assessment
A. Identify the following triangles according to
their angles.
