Prior Learning / Reason for including this session

Most of the students in this class are still new to a physical school environment. They spent a large portion of last year learning online. The students are still learning

how to follow the school rules, and know important members of our school community. They are also still learning about each other and how to interact with one

another in appropriate ways. These Circle Time sessions are like meetings, where we try to focus on academic topics and social-emotional learning behaviours.

During these morning meetings, I will outline what they will learn each day so that they understand whom they will see and what subject they will learn. We will

always address how each student is feeling to establish each individuals emotions coming into the class. We will always recap the classroom rules, to ensure that

they are safe and know the expectations at school. The students are learning about the water investigation in other sessions, so we will try incorporate this topic into

the morning discussions.

2. Rule recap: The teacher has the students what the 3 Big Rules are in the class (Be

rules that can fit inside the big rules. Example: Be Safe can have small rules inside

4. Letter of the Day: Each day one student will put their hand into a mystery bag of

Letter of the Day alphabet letters. The letter that they pull out links to a set of flashcards. We have a

alphabet tiles in a bag set of flashcards that directly link to life in Hanoi. Example: J is for Jackfruit (a

up visuals on the computer to get the students starting a conversation on the topic.

Daily schedule board day. There will be 3 options to choose from. Each week the teacher will change the

classroom rules poster options.

6. Circle time is repeated each day.

Evaluation of Area / Space / Activity

The space works well for the number of students. It is central with a nice amount of whiteboard space to write down any ideas, words, or drawings that can be discussed with the class. The rug

is nice and big and has fun alphabet letters and numbers on it. On the left, the pinboard is in good range to the circle time area. It has some visuals of the class rules, the routines for the days,

and some other general discussion-related posters such as days of the week, months of the year, animals, colours, and shapes. This board has an interactive activity where students can put

coloured sticks into the emotion they are feeling each day. The colour of the stick represents the 'zones' they are in. Each zone has a specific set of emotions that I child might feel each day. On

the right is our incentive board which the students thoroughly enjoy. The incentive board has sticker charts where the students are highly motivated to finish their chart to get a reward. These

sticker charts have been extremely successfully and are always in good range to the circle time area when we discuss behaviours, emotions and class rules.
LESSON PLAN

Implications for the space

Ms Van (TA) and I discussed putting CH on the corner near the tissue box as she had a runny nose this week and kept disturbing others while getting up to blow her nose. We placed a smaller bin
near the carpet as it started getting distracting for others when a student asked to get up to get tissue or water, so hopefully having these items closer makes room for better discussions.

Additional Comments / Thoughts / Ideas

This was a shorter week, as we headed toward Thanksgiving. We had additional discussions about where students were going for the break, and what they are

thankful for.
