Subject: Report on the workshop: How to prepare your CV and a Professional Portfolio

On Thursday, September 8th, 2022, I attended a workshop titled “How to prepare your CV and a
Professional Portfolio”, held in a conference room in the student services building. In charge of
organizing this conference were the student associations known as AMWA (American Medical
Women’s Association) and AMSA (American Medical Students Association). Presiding over the
workshop was Laura Blondet-Vázquez, president of AMWA. Dr. Pier A. LeCompté Zambrana,
professor of the English department at the University of Puerto Rico in Ponce, was the resource
for this workshop.

Curriculum Vitae
A curriculum vitae (CV) is a technical document often used to present yourself to a selection
committee in a way that makes you stand out from the rest of the candidates for a specific
academic position. The length of a CV is not necessarily of the upmost importance if it is concise
and up to date. A CV has a purpose of making you look more professional and is divided into
different sections.
Professional Portfolios
A career or professional portfolio works to aid students in the organization of all documents
connected to their career path. This demonstrates the development of the student’s skills,
experiences, and academic accomplishments. Typically used to strengthen what is put in a CV,
the portfolio presents a student’s strength, weaknesses, preparation, and suitability for a selection
committee. All current or recent information placed in the different sections of the portfolio shall
be placed first in order. The format of a professional portfolio is flexible as it can be in a paper
format or has the option to be an e-portfolio, web, and video.
Closing Remarks
A workshop of this kind of topic is fruitful for all undergraduate students. This is because most
of these students will need to complete documents like these for internships, graduate school
applications, summer programs, and in other professional job settings. Follow-up workshops
may include those in which students come together to organize and perfect their own CV and
portfolios under the supervision of an expert in the subject.
