SUBJECT: Report of the conference How to prepare your CV and Professional
Portfolio

INTRODUCTORY SUMMARY
The purpose of this report is to discuss the characteristics of the Curriculum
Vitae and the Professional Portfolio that were presented on the conference How to
prepare your CV and Professional Portfolio, offered in the conference room of the
student dean of the University of Puerto Rico in Ponce at 12:00pm on Thursday,
September 8, 2022. There are differences between the curriculum and portfolio that
help to understand the specific function of each one. I will present the information
discussed about both documents in the following sections: General Characteristics,
Format, and Main Differences.

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS
Below are listed some general characteristics stated at the conference.

Curriculum Vitae:
1. Reverse chronological order is required.
2. It should not be focused on high school information.
3. It should include the owner’s name on each page.

Professional Portfolio:
1. It has all the evidence of what is stated in the Curriculum Vitae.
2. It can be classified as career or professional type.
3. Photos are used as additional information, but not as technical evidence.

FORMAT
The curriculum will generally be required on paper, but in some places, it can be
accepted in digital format. In addition, the portfolio can be done on paper, e-portfolio, or
video.

MAIN DIFFERENCES
The following are three main differences between both documents.

1. The general content may vary due to specifications and requirements.

2. Length can be smaller or larger on both, depending on the content.
3. The portfolio contains the formal evidence that the curriculum lacks.

CONCLUSION
The importance of both the Curriculum Vitae and Professional Portfolio goes
beyond student dedication. The lecturer addressed and highlighted the impact of both
documents in undergraduate schools and scholar positions, along with the extensive
and meticulous preparation involved within. This conference benefits me academically
because it encourages me to get involved in extracurricular activities and other
experiences that will contribute to my future. It will also provide everyone who attends
an opportunity to be aware of what is required in both the professional and work
environment. For a more efficient writing process, you can go to a counselor or other
expert from the institution to request a review or correction, if necessary.
