I. INTRODUCTION As the time of pandemic, a lot of people became a gardener

and a farmer. Plants is their source of peace in a stressful
environment because of pandemic. They do it to get outside and

(Rana, Villareal) relieve stress, according to the gardeners. Some people started
gardens to ensure that they had food security, especially at the
outset of the pandemic when grocery store shelves were bare.
Gardening has long been promoted as a soothing recreational
activity with numerous personal benefits. Gardening can be a
great family-inclusive hobby to embrace during this time, when
many individuals are working at home and students are learning
at home.
Most farmers and gardeners use chemicals as fertilizer or
pesticide, but they are unaware that they have numerous negative
effects on our soil, including contamination of soil, water, turf, and
other vegetation, which is detrimental to the plants’ health. As a
result, as part of this study, the researchers conducted a study on
plants that can be use as plant fertilizer or pesticide. Pesticide
plants included Malunggay (Moringa Oleifera), which is effective at
repelling insects. Plant fertilizer plants include ripe and sweet
fruits such as papaya, banana, and others. These organic
substances can be used to manufacture fertilizers and non-
chemical insecticides that aid in plant development and soil
protection.

II. PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to educate farmers about
(John Carl Rana) organic fertilizers and pesticides. One of the goals of this research
was to clarify the differences between organic and chemicals
fertilizers and pesticides, as well as to advocate the non-chemical
fertilizers and pesticides to help plants develop quicker by
providing vitamins that chemical fertilizers lack. The researchers
needed to make a lot of non-chemicals or organic fertilizers and
pesticides and distribute it to farmers, as well as teach them how to
make them, so that they can avoid using chemicals fertilizers and
pesticides, which cause serious soil degradation, nitrogen leaching,
soil compaction, reduction in soil organic matter, and loss of soil
carbon.

IV. BRIEF REVIEW Organic Fertilizer

OF RELATED
LITERATURE Two major challenges confront the world’s food system: (1)
AND STUDIES feeding a growing population with rising levels of calorie and
( Villareal, animal product consumption; combating climate change (Bodirsky
Amparo) et al., 2015; Sans and Combris, 2015); (2) Supporting ecosystem
services, recovering natural resources damaged by unsustainable
agriculture practices, and operating within safe biophysical bounds
are all important goals (Rockstrom et al., 2009, 2015; Godfray et al.,
2010; Foley et al., 2011). For many, the promotion and usage of
chemical-based fertilizers in SI compromises the term
“sustainable” (Petersen and Snapp, 2015; Mahon et., al 2018).
Pretty et al., (2011) emphasizes the need for both increased
productivity and decreased negative environmental producing
more output from the same area of land while reducing the
negative environmental impact and at the same time increasing
contributions to natural capital and the flow of environmental
services”.

management philosophies that encompass a varied array of

farming methods, with a lower reliance on purchased inputs, which
is especially beneficial to novice farmers with limited resources. As
the cost of commercial fertilizer and shipping rises, a growing
number and shipping rises, a growing number of food producers in
Hawaii and Pacific recognize the need for locally available organic
fertilizers to boost soil fertility, crop health, and productivity. In
addition to concerns about the availability of affordable soil
amendments, consumers in the United States have become
increasingly interested in sustainability and organic crops in recent
decades. Increased tourism has increased demand for fresh local
fruits and vegetables, particularly those labeled “locally farmed”.
Shifting from conventional to organic farming has numerous
advantages for human health, including environmental protection,
soil fertility restoration through improved physical, chemical,
biological properties, and improved crop quality (Amjad A. et al.,
2016).

Organic Pesticide
Non-target creatures can be harmed direct by pesticides, which
affect their gene expression, behavior, reproduction, and life cycle,
or indirectly by changing interactions between individuals and
communities. Because single-species laboratory tests focus on
single species under highly standardized settings, they are unable
to adequately address these complex impacts of chemical exposure
at the community or higher levels. As a result, we must not only
comprehend what occurs at the individual level, but also disclose
the cascade of responses at lower levels of biological structure, as
well as adopt a more holistic appraisal of higher hierarchical
levels of ecological organization (European Commission, 2009).
Pesticides that come from natural sources are commonly
referred to as organic pesticides. Plants such as pyrethrum,
rotenone, or ryania, or minerals, are examples of natural sources
(HICG, 1999).

Conceptual Framework

Figure 1. Process on how to produce organic fertilizer/pesticide

Agriculture is a very substantial business that employs a large

number of skilled and unskilled workers all over the world. There
are various money-making business prospects in the agricultural
sector, and any diligent investor can take advantage of them to
make a fortune. Manufacturing organic fertilizer is one of the
agricultural-related business opportunities that an entrepreneur
can effectively start in any area of the world. Human excreta,
animal matter, or decomposed vegetable/plant matter are used to
make organic fertilizer, often to known as compost or manure
(Lewis Olivia, 2016).

Homemade bio-pesticides are always environmentally

friendly, safe, and cost-effective or free when prepared with locally
available resources and family work. The consensus on homemade
biopesticides and organic pest management was extremely
favorable. Farmers in the study area took both preventative and
control measures. In pest management, perching, light traps, and
cultural activities were all quite widespread. For the manufacture
of homemade bio-pesticides, neem leaves, neem kernels, Vasaka
leaves, cow dung, cow urine, death desires, and goats were
commonly employed. Most respondents stated that the caterpillar
was controlled by perching (Md. Shafiqul Islam, 2016).

V. METHODOLOGY This chapter contains of strategies and methodical procedures done

(Villareal) throughout the process of the study.

Research Design
On this study, the researchers used experimental design. Which
is a concept that ensures that as much relevant information as possible
is acquired from a small number of trials by organizing, conducting,
and interpreting the findings of experiments in an efficient manner. The
design of experiments refers to any task aimed at describing and
explaining variation data under conditions that are assumed to reflect
the variation. Basically, this study utilized qualitative since it generally
aims to know how to produce a product like organic fertilizer and
pesticide.

Sample and Sampling Procedure

Ten farmers and gardeners were asked to be the respondents of

the study. The researchers used quota sampling as the researchers
ensured that concerned populations had been represented by willingly
participating in the conduct of this research. The researchers

considered ten gardeners/farmers on different barangays in Sariaya,

Quezon since they are the ones most expected in dealing with the
fertilizer and pesticide. At this cause, the researchers have realized that
earning evaluations and feedbacks from them would have a significant
relevance in pondering the essence of the study.

Data Collection Instrument

As for the collection of the desired data, the researchers prepared

a survey questionnaire with ten items questions for the
gardeners/farmers. It is intended to use the garlic, chili, and any sweet
fruits to complete the product, but we used ripped papaya. After that,
the researchers are looking forward for the participants towards the
enhancement and effectiveness of this study.

Data Gathering Procedures

To accomplish this study, the following steps were followed and

considered.

Before conducting the data collection or the survey questions,

the researchers asked first permission of the respondents to. Then, the
tools and the method on how the data will be gathered were next
discussed by the researchers.

After that, the researchers distributed the questionnaires towards

each of the respondents. The obtained responses of the participants
were consolidated and analyzed. Simplified interpretations of the
responses were used to arrive at an accurate conclusion of the study.

There is a specific procedure to follow while creating fertilizer

or fermented fruit juice. To begin, look for any ripe, sweet fruit. Papaya
is our fruit of choice. After cutting it into little pieces, add 1 kilo of
brown sugar to 1 kilo of papaya. Then mash it until the brown sugar
that has been added thickens it up. Put it in a container that isn't
composed of steel, such as aluminum or tin; instead, use a plastic
container. To keep little insects out, cover it with a clean towel or paper

and tie a rope around it. Place it somewhere dark, clean, dry, cool, and
free of any chemical contamination, such as gasoline or paint. Check
for a bad odor or worms floating after a week and then another week; if
this occurs, the process is contaminated and will not be beneficial.
Repeat the process two more times, straining the juice each time. Our
Fermented Fruit Juice is created after three rounds of the process. To
use it in a liter of water, mix two teaspoons Fermented Fruit Juice with
one liter of water and spray it directly on the tree and leaves of the
plant to aid in the growth of thick leaves and fruit production.

Making an Organic Pesticide using chili and malunggay. First,

separate malunggay leaves to its branches, chop some three to five
pieces of chili (depending on the amount of malunggay), also add two
to five cloves of garlic for better effects, then put it on the grinder, add
two to four glasses of water (depending on the mixture amount), grind
it until the mixture dissolves on the water. Finally sift the mixture
while putting on a sprayer or container.
