students to their parents

D. In each of the following situations, a random sample must be obtained.

Determine whether a cluster, stratified, or systematic random sampling would be
appropriate. Explain in detail how the sampling is to be conducted. Do not
discuss expected results or conclusions.
1. A large convenience store chain wishes to determine its
customers’ level of satisfaction with regard to their service.
Systematic random sampling, every five people that comes to the counter
to pay excluding those who return and have already taken the survey.
2. A nationwide survey on charter change is to be conducted. (Note:
there are seventeen regions in the Philippines.)
Stratified random sampling, 100 people from each of the seventeen
regions will be chosen at random to take the survey.
3. An educational researcher wants to compare the difference in
career goals between male and female students of Otto Hahn
University who has 10,000 students.
Stratified random sampling, 1 male and 1 female will be chosen at random
from each classroom.

engineers who work in the communications field earn more than
those who are in semiconductor industries.
Stratified random sampling, 10 people will be chosen at random each from
the communication field and from those in semiconductor industries.
5. A market analyst would like to compare the durability, in terms of
mean time before wear, of two leading brands of car tires.
Stratified random sampling, 4 drivers will be chosen at random from truck
drivers, suv drivers, and sports car drivers each to provide data of how
long each tires from both brands last.
