Youth Immersion Day
S.Y 2022-2023

A. Description of the Youth Immersion Day

On November 12, 2022, the SVD, Church members, and especially the
beneficiaries and others associated with the events celebrated Youth Immersion Day at
USC University of San Carlos. As the events unfolded, I noticed that the majority of the
students were joining in on the blessed and grateful morning. The goal of the
community or church, according to this event, is to help each other, reunite, and work
together.

B. Learnings and Challenges

Geraga, Mark Steven’s Point of View

In the slums of Lapu-Lapu, there comes a small community that is experiencing

too much poverty. Trash serves as their livelihood. With the kindness of the University of
San Carlos, they offer their help to the underprivileged community. On November 12,
2022, we have a webinar that showcases the said community. I was of great pleasure to
join the webinar.

Things that I learned from the webinar is to be grateful everyday because not
everyone experiences the life you have, it is a dream for someone or some people. To be
appreciative in every smallest thing you have. To be an individual with a virtue that
commences a great positive impact to humanity. And most of all, as a student of the
University of San Carlos, a student who is a witness to the word.

One of the challenges I experienced during the session is considering myself less
fortunate when in fact there are people who are beyond less fortunate than me. As I
consider myself less fortunate, I have been tempted to just leave the webinar and do
other activities that will make use of my time. But as it showcases an underprivileged
community, I got to be interested and continue to listen to the speakers. In handling the
challenge, I have come to realize that there are people who need help more than me.

In life, we should have appreciation for every small step we made, to every small
thing we have, for every blessing we receive, small or big, still it is a thing you have that
others dream of having.

In relation to the school’s ideology in helping the said community, all the rest of
my moral support belongs to the university because of such kindness. I am honored to
be a Carolinian upholding the school’s dignity.

Jorolan, Jordan’s Point of View

On this USC youth immersion day, I learned a lot about different people, different
stories to tell, different struggles and challenges faced, and different successes in life.
Each person involved in the program gives them hope, helps them get out of poverty,
and gives them meaning and purpose in life, thanks to the genuine heart, the SVD,
church members, and others who contributed to the project's success. Helping others
provides meaning to one's life. It satisfies our most fundamental needs, such as
connecting with others and making a difference with our actions.

Indeed, throughout history, the central feature of a well-lived life has always been
linked to the positive act of helping others. Others will help you if you help them. When
we are in need, all of the love and help we give to others will undoubtedly return to us
tenfold. We always remember that as long as you can help others, don't think about the
return; God knows everything. We feel relieved, happy, loved, and blessed when we help
others.
