ESSAY:
The Philippines is among the East Asian countries noted for its abundant natural
resources. It is also well-known for tourism due to the abundance of tourist attractions. However, in
terms of socioeconomics, the Philippines is not as far forward as you might imagine.
When the question of whether the Philippines is a Global South country arises, the answer is
yes. One of the reasons is that the Philippines supports its economy by depending on cheap labor.
The Philippines is classified as a third-world country, which indicates it has a low economy in
comparison to other countries. Corruption, a high unemployment rate, and poverty continue to
plague the Philippines today. Oligarchy and a few signs of anarchy are proven by demonstrating
instances of injustice throughout history and in the present. However, because of its cultural
diversity, the Philippines has gained support from countries in the first and second worlds.
Nonetheless, the Philippines continues to struggle to improve its socioeconomic and political
conditions since efforts are not prioritized.
Finally, while the Philippines is considered a country in the Global South, the changes it has
gone through plainly show that the Philippines is progressing. Although some national challenges
have not yet been resolved, the Philippines now has the strength to continue resolving such issues
with the assistance of other countries, particularly those that are industrially, economically, and
technologically advanced. Whether it is the Global South or not, we as Filipinos must strive in order
to make the Philippines a better place.
