MORE than 1,400 contestants
have signed up for the prelimi-
nary contests in the nine contest
regions in eight countries, which
are serving as the subvenues of
the Second International Talent
Innovative & Entrepreneurial
Competition, according to the
contest organizer, Shenzhen
Municipal Human Resources
and Social Security Bureau.
Around 100 talents and teams
will bring their projects and
items, which stand out in the
preliminary contests in March in
the nine cities — Boston, Stock-
holm, Sydney, Toronto, Berlin,
Tel Aviv, Tokyo, Silicon Valley
Airline to open EU flights
HAINAN Airlines will open two
intercontinental routes from
Shenzhen to two European
cities, Madrid and Brussels, in
late March.
The first flight to Brussels is
scheduled for March 20. The
flight will operate every Tuesday
and Thursday.
Flight HU759 leaves Shenzhen
at 12 p.m. and arrives in the Bel-
gian capital at 5:30 p.m. The return
flight leaves Brussels at 7:30 p.m.
and arrives in Shenzhen at 1:50
p.m. the following day.
The flight from Shenzhen to
Madrid will be launched March
22. It will operate twice a week
from Shenzhen, on Thursdays
and Sundays, and the trip will
take 14 hours and 15 minutes.
The return flight from Madrid
will operate every Monday and
Friday and it will take 13 hours
and 5 minutes.
Besides the two routes, Hainan
Airlines will open a Shenzhen-
Tianjin-Vancouver route in the
first half of the year.

received entries for 1,460 proj-
ects, an increase of 17 percent
over the previous year, indicat-

Among the registrations, 211
projects are from the Silicon
Valley, followed by Toronto with
208 projects.

last year.
Statistics showed that in 2017
airlines opened 16 international
air routes from Shenzhen to
world cities, including Mel-
bourne and Moscow, bringing
the number of international
routes to 36.
The international passenger
turnover at the Shenzhen airport
reached 2.95 million in 2017, an
increase of 32.4 percent over the
previous year.

MANY local lawmakers are
urging the city government
to expedite the relocation of
Nantou Heliport in Nanshan
District, as they said the height
limit of buildings near the heli-
port is hindering the district’s
economic development, the
Southern Metropolis Daily
reported Monday.
Over 10 lawmakers jointly
submitted a proposal about
expediting the heliport’s reloca-
tion during the city’s municipal
people’s congress in January.
The heliport, which was built
in 1983, is located near the inter-
section of Nanhai Boulevard and
Beihuan Boulevard. Occupy-
ing an area of 24 hectares, the
heliport has a 546-meter-long

port has developed rapidly over
the past few years, the height
limit of buildings near the heli-
port has restricted urban devel-
opment in Nanshan. The heliport
also poses a threat to public safety
due to the dense population and
closely packed buildings.
The city government made the
decision to relocate the heliport
to Longhua District in 2012. The
new heliport is expected to start
service by the end of this year.
