Our topic yesterday was all about verb.

B. Developmental activities

A. Activity

Read the short story about Maria Makiling

Maria the enchantress of Makiling, had


no peer in beauty nor in goodness. Her
face was bright as the sun. Her
complexion was extremely smooth and
fair. Her hair was long and her face was
like the virgin’s, finely-chiseled and
delicately colored.

Maria was kind and generous. She


would not punish the men who hunted the
birds and the animals she loved. Instead,
Maria would offer them food and drinks
when they hungry and thirsty. She would
give them fresh fruits to bring back to the
town. These, upon their surprise, would
turn into gold upon their return home.

In disguise, Maria would talk among the


people in the town. She would attend
weddings and feast and would even give
gifts to the people.

Maria loved one thing-white hens. If she


ever asked for any gift in return for the
good things that she did, she would ask
for a white hen.

Maria’s kindness seemed to have no


end. But neither did man’s greed know
any satisfaction.

The people were not content with what


she gave them. They would often steal
from Maria. They would steal ginger in the
forest knowing that ginger picked from
Makiling would turn into gold. They killed
animals and cut down trees. They abused
Maria’s kindness.

Soon, Mariang Makiling could not be


seen anymore. People noticed their
harvests had dwindled. They felt Maria’s
absence.

One night, a heavy storm came and


destroyed the countryside. The people
heard the loud, vengeful laughter of
Mariang Makiling. Now, whenever people
take anything from Mt. Makiling, they are
always beset by the rains and storms.

3. ABSTRACTION

Adjectives- are words that modify a noun
or a pronoun. To modify means to
describe, identify, or limit.

It may be qualitative, denoting kind, size,


shape, height, weight, or feeling. They
may also be quantitative, indicating
number.

It has 3 degree of comparison- the


Positive, Comparative, and the
Superlative.

When using the base form of adjectives in


comparisons, remember the following.

1. Adjectives with one syllable form the


comparative and superlative degrees by
adding -er and -est, respectively.

2. Adjectives with two syllables ending in -


y, form the comparative and superlatives
degrees by changing -y to -I before adding
-er or -est respectively.

3. Adjectives with three or more syllables


form the comparative degree by using
more/less and the superlative degree by
using most/least before the adjectives.

4. Some adjectives with two syllables,


however, form the comparative degree by
using more/less and the superlative
degree by using most/least before the
adjective.
