Hi!

My name is Katherine Olsen and I will be your child’s math teacher this year. This is my
first year teaching, as I just graduated from Butler University in 2023 with a degree in
Mathematics, Middle/Secondary Education, and Spanish. I grew up in DeKalb, Illinois
with my two older sisters and two younger brothers, graduating from DeKalb High
School in 2019. I chose this profession because I love working with kids and helping
them to see the value and beauty of mathematics.

I’m a strong supporter of keeping an open line of communication between home and
school, and I trust that this letter can be the start of that. Throughout the year, I hope
to discuss what’s happening in our classroom, ways you can support your child's
learning at home, and ways I can extend what you do at home in school. I believe that
the more I know your child, the better I can meet their needs in the classroom. I would
love to hear from you about your child, any questions or concerns you may have, and
anything else! I look forward to this year and getting to know you and your child!
